I've had a look at the gas bills. There are 3 items. I mentioned earlier that I would check the bills when next in CE.
Consumo gas. (Obvious). Wow the KWH of gas is far cheaper than electricity.
Then
1. Termino fijo
2. Alquiler de contador. This is the monthly rental. I pay for 2 months and its 2.44 Euro approx. Half that (approx) for a month. 1.22
This is low enough for me NOT to use bottled gas for the cost of changeover and the hassle of finding space for the bottles.
The Termino fijo is 4.35 Euro/month. What is that please? I suspect its some sort of standing charge/rental.
If it is some sort of rental then I am paying less than 6 euros +/- 5.50 a month regardless of gas usage....in total standing charges.
Still debatable as to whether we change.... but would make financial sense over a few years - with our usage. Just the hassle factor has to be counted in.
The big savings would be from installing gas central heating (I think) as the cost is so much cheaper than electricity. Heating in winter.
Or one of those movable gas bottle heater - but I think they increase humidity in the rooms, and we are very humid here normally. I hesitate to do that for the humidity.
Gas is just under 6 cents and electricity just under 15 c / KWH. Also the rental of the electricity is much higher... but you cant stop those monthly charges, like you can with using bottle gas.
to be expected when they have you by the short and curlies!!

Hi Jon, As you know I have just bought a Wall mounted high efficiency flueless gas fire FROM b&q ..It cost £24 to have it delivered to Esurie It has been fitted and works perfect..So we have a warm apartment for half the cost of electric and no bottles to change..
My 'knob' is now always in the right 'position', thanks to YOU!! Big boy!
Gas fire sounds great - you mentioned this the other day and I would only advise getting a carbon monoxide detector for a few quid just to be 100% sure. You told me that the fire uses a catalytic convertor ..... just in case it breaks - I suggest getting one. Do you need to have vents as well for air flow? I had to do this for a combi-boiler I once used inside and had to put some vents on the outside facing doors
I have decided against bottles once I have the numbers.... its great that there is a switch that someone mentioned earlier to have 2 bottles and just switch over, but the bottles will take up room and for me - personally - I will pay the standing charges. To save the hassle, and up front cost. For our usage it breaks even financially over a couple of years, but for us the hassle factor / space needed is high. Thanks to this thread I've been able to think about it and work out the numbers
Does anybody know how I can get the equivalent of economy 7 in CE? We have a modern version of storage radiators in Belgium, I initially thought that was bad, but actually at night (half price electricity) it heats up and keeps the home always at a steady temperature, I am a bit of an insomniac so I can go down, put on my wireless headphones and watch missed Star Trek Voyager episodes in the early hours! Always warm 24 hours a day. In the future when we only have electricity, these will be good too.

You can get them with timers as well. I reckon something like 1.7 Kw will be enough for our living room....maybe the next model up.
Life is so good for you, Bill ..... warm home, low cost heating, and beers waiting for you from a couple of forum members when you have 'no wheels on your wagon' ............ but you will still be 'rolling along'
The only 'Cherokee' after you already has 4 wheels
See you soon

Hi Jon,
Unbelievable, I wish I was there now to give it a try. We've had hot water in the past, but never hot enough for a decent bath. Emailed ADA this weekend but now want to give this a go first.
If it works will let you know, we can't be the only ones with this problem and the drinks will be on us.

Our shower was working OK as the knob was somewhere in the middle. Today I thought I should try it, and ours is also reverse connected!!. By turning it 'down' the difference was amazing, power shower, as I could mix more cold water with the now hotter supply.
I really hope this works for you..... what a great surprise if it does

I'm desperately scrolling through the threads looking for a contact number for someone to fit an electric boiler. We are in Ayamonte until SUnday and was hoping we could locate someone. Could anyone Pm me with details please?

Sounds a great idea. Who did you use to fit it and how much did it cost? Did it cause much disruption eg tiled floors.
We just use electric radiators at the moment but we do have mains gas (boiler in the utility room) for hot water.
Thanks

That's good news, hot power shower is the stuff of dreams at the moment. Decided to try reversing the controls first as family are in Spain next week and it's strange the hot water suddenly stopped working; it's not been used that much since the house was built.
Contacted ADA who put us in touch with Gesprosur, who then gave us the phone number of a local plumber, so back up if needed.
Many thanks, Jan

The route for the pipes goesthrough the wall into kitchen under the sink and through the wall behind the washing machine into the lounge ( 5 meters )straight into the back of the fire it took about a hour to fit,, the one we bought from B&Q is called piano you can look it up on there web site..

Thanks Bill
That looks really interesting. Do you need a vent? If so, where does that go?
