For those who can't be bothered to read it all, this is the relevant passage:
"But another 14 locations have enjoyed rises. Little-known Huelva in Andalucia has seen a whopping 40% price hike in the past 12 months, chiefly because its littleused regional airport is about to be extended to take international flights and is widely tipped to become a rival to Faro for visitors to the Algarve."

And what a grossly misrepresented story that is. 40%???????????? Since this time last year??????? Show me the evidence. Maybe the writer has a house that may have gone up that much but that is far, far from the norm. That is not to say house prices haven't gone up, because they have, but I prefer to trust Spanish sources when it comes to facts about Spain.

Where, pray tell, is this regional airport he talks of?? Obviously he means the private airstrip at Gibraleon, but who said that it is going to be extended? Widely tipped?????????? Yeah, I can just see Faro quaking in its boots right now!!!!

Piffle!!!

I don't think anywhere in Spain has rising prices just now. I am not knocking the area where you live it is just the same anywhere where there has been a lot of off-plan developments.

Those articles, particularly in the Mail and Telegraph should be regarded as paid adverts. They have been talking about the "next big thing" for years. airports/golf courses etc. not just in Spain. Then there are the fantasies that a certain footie celeb is buying there. I even saw one ugly development in Malta stating that Bill Gates was interested. The only price rises are the developers ones and if they can't sell after years of marketing a place then we (Spain) is in a slump.

Not that I want to put an advert in here for next week's Oracle, but there's some news regarding property prices in Huelva - not compiled by real estate developer! - that, for the most part, is quite encouraging. It will be out Wednesday

Any ideas about the best restaurants in the area?
We have eaten at Meson Los Chocos several times and never had a bad meal. Similarly Casa Barberi and the Ayamar y Sierra. We ate for the first time at Meson Rincon el Suarez the other day and that was also a very enjoyable meal. Some of the other restaurants in town we have found to be a bit hit and miss - sometimes an excellent meal, sometimes less enjoyable. Tapas bars we have enjoyed - Bar Cortada, La Puerta Ancha, Tasca Quitapena, Casa Vicente. Apologies if I have misspelt any names.

On another subject, the commercial centre is coming on very well and it looks as though some of the units could soon be ready for the shopfitters. The cladding tiles are going up around the outside and there were always plenty of workmen beavering away. Interestingly, when we went into the shed we were looking at the diagrams for the commercial centre and the large unit above the Eroski supermarket is labelled as "bricolage" which my trusty dictionary tells me means a DIY store. All we need now is a garden centre and the Brits will have many happy weekends! (Only joking!)

Hi
Did you get any veg!!! I bet it was a couple of slices off a tasteless big old tomato!!! Plain boiled potatoes or white thin chips!!! on a plate swimming in oil. I understand one of the top european chefs hangs out in Seville. He hasn't managed to spread his enthusiasm for food to the chefs of Ayamonte yet. Who knows it might be on its way!!!
