Hi Mike,

I have also been looking to buy a new car out here. In Ayamonte there are a number of dealerships - for Ford, Renault, Opel and Hyundai, as well as a number of 2nd hand dealers. If you take the dual carriageway out of Ayamonte from the Eroski supermarket towards the football stadium, they are all in the area right of you. I don't know if any have their own websites, however. If you go to the manufacturers spanish webites, e.g. www.ford.es, they almost all have a search tool for dealers (but perversely don't show all the smaller dealerships. concessions). Hope this helps.

Mike

Many thanks for your helpful reply and others who pm'd me. I was actually thinking of buying a LHD spanish registered car in the UK (as they seem to be a lot cheaper) and was interested in what main dealers were local for servicing, parts etc. Although I have been in Ayamonte loads of times I must have been driving with my eyes closed as I hadn't noticed any car lots :(

Not sure I would go for a new car in Spain. Judging by most of the bumpers and boots/bonnets the car is used as a battering ram when parking (seen that done in Paris by an off duty policeman in a 2CV4!), and all with scrapes from tight underground garaging. Also sun in the summer combined with dust would not do a lot for the paintwork. My thought would be to find an ex-rental or something like that. They tend to let them go after a year or so. Probably worth also asking some of those who live there permanently what they do.

On a separate track, was good to meet a number of people from the Esuri/Ayamonte pages when we were over. John, how is the mansion progressing - architect thrown you off the site yet? Jag - was agreat dinner, and Jur, hope the pirates did not fall into the treasure trove before they were supposed to!

John, we have lots of GWA people here in Osnabruck who would love to come down to do your fixtures and fittings!

Still hoping to complete - one day!

Hi Reptonian,

Great to meet with you and others from the forum. The roof is now on and complete so we had hoped to see some painting before we leave tommorrow but they decided to wire up instead and worked on that all this week. Odd getting offers of help for the fixtures and fitting from contacts worldwide don't know why they keep talking about working the early forenoon routine and relaxing in the heat of the day and as you know it has been hot these last two weeks but it must cool down soon so I will cope on my own I suppose.

Had another great curry at Jags last night and will be sad to depart tommorrow.

Hope you are able to complete soon the population here seems to be growing and there was a lot of golf played on golf II yesterday. Golf I seems to be growing in popularity and there have been coachloads ariveing all last week.

Regards,

John.

Thanks, John&Kath, just as our hols begin!;)
Weather has changed today here - wind & rain, a murky morning.
Hold on to your hats, if I'm supposed to be bringing the weather with me!

This might be of interest to some folk:

Did a quick search for the names of the different barrios or neighbourhoods in Ayamonte, after reading about the car places being hard to locate, and found this lovely webpage courtesy of wikip. It's in spanish, with some great up to date photos (and some ancient ones) of local buildings, statues, azulejos, etc. Enjoy!

Regards,
Carol

P.S. I didn't know the bus station used to be the train station? Learn something new everyday...

Why don't you try contacting Zel who posts on here. His business is supplying LHD cars and delivering them to Spain and Portugal. I know for a fact that he has supplied cars to a few posters on BE!
