All the stuff in the QMs is covered by plastic sheeting, and it is a fairly rich smell down there! Wasnt it one of those fantastic 60s-70s builds?

You need to use a special type of cement in the building of stables.

That will certainly upset the apartment rentals then.

Sorry to hear about your boiler problem (touch wood, fingers crossed...), but are Fadesa still doing after sales for people who completed more than one year ago?

Hi Carol

We have been pleased with the snags that Fadesa have attended to since our purchase May 06 however there are 2 outstanding; a wardrobe door that needs replacing and a window frame. Both were advised within 12 months of purchase and the door was promised for Nov 07 when the "new wood was to be delivered". Fadesa did attempt to repair the window frame but made a right mess and we said it was unacceptable. I have written, faxed and 'phoned and did say I expected the remaining jobs to be completed by Jan 31st 08. I spoke to Grace today who said the Technical Dept had told her that no more work would be carried out at our house. I maintained the stance that these 2 remaining faults had been reported in time and all the work thay had completed up to now was only necessary because of poor workmanship in the first place. There was a long silence and a bit of a stand off then I said that I would see her in June and would expect ( I'll be lucky) a representative from the Tech Dept to come to the house and view the damaged window frame. I like Grace and I think she has a difficult job but, although I am many years older than her, she does un-nerve me. It's that piercing gaze over the top of her glasses which reminds me of my old chemistry teacher who terrified us all at school. On another matter we have always used carhire-online who have booked cars with Travel Rent at Faro but they ( carhire-online) do not do car hire anymore. I liked them as the prices were very reasonable, no extra to pay for driving in two countries and I could pay in sterling with my credit card...if I go direct to Travel rent I won't be able to do that. I have been checking and Zitauto seem to meet the above 3 requirements but does anybody else have a preference ? Also we could all drive the car for no extra cost
Just a footnote..........What fabulous weather here, just getting us in the mood for CE, can't wait to get there and see how the place is looking, 7 months since we were last out.

Take Care all

Mel

If you book direct with travel rent you will pay in euros. When you arrive in Faro. Surely that is better than paying on Credit Card 1 or 2 months earlier!!!

NO - I usually book the car 3 weeks before we go and if I time it right I then pay from my America Express CC up to 4 weeks later and I get air miles. Great, as in Feb it paid for my daughter and I to have Free flights to NY and free hotel accomodation. 2 years ago 4 of us had a free deal in Dublin for a weekend. But my main reason is that I prefer to have the booking in advance and paperwork so I have confidence the car(s) will be there. Having said that I do think travel rent are good but part of my family arrive 2 days B4 us and late in the evening I would hate for them not to have a car, I just feel that paying in advance gives me more confidence that car will be there...not necessarily I know but my preference.

Thanks for your thoughts though.

All the best

Hi Mel

We have tended to use Economy Car Hire. They tend to be very reasonable, provide a good service and allow payment in sterling and do not involve any extra costs for driving into Spain. They used to use a firm drive4Fun, but have since moved on.

I recklessly, in February, booked via another firm Angus Car Hire, but the end result was additional charges when we got to Faro. So we are back with Economy. Better to stay with a tried and trusted supplier - although they do tend to move between actual suppliers.

Hope that is helpful, but food for thought, anyway.

I do NOT agree. For example, in Islantilla there are a lot of hotels and the rental income is very high

This is the second hint (MichaelH was the first) that the hotel is on the move again so it looks as though it might be going to happen. Too late for this year though!

As soon as we have a hotel I think CE will become an official stop on the coach from Faro and that should give us some recognition, at the moment we are well hidden behind the ridge and if you are not at the front you don't see CE coming over the bridge.

Fadesa told yesterday that they were changing the hotel design to accommodate more rooms... and then they will keep going. They also told me that EROSKI, and the commercial center, will be open at the end of 2008.

Mel

Just checked our latest booking, and Economy Car Hire are presently using TravelRent as their supplier. Will let you know how we get on.
