I'm always happier when (like Mel said you have paid up front) and also when there is an actual desk to go to. We have been let down a couple of times with a no show - money was refunded - but notice that Economy are also listing Guerin as one of their suppliers. We have booked a car for the summer and the supplier is Guerin and they have a desk in the airport just along from Avis and Hertz. Again ... just something else to think about!

Hi Sharon

Thanks for that info.

Quite a few seem to use Economy but I have compared their prices with Zitauto and Zit are much more reasonable priced. I have just spoken to them (Dove House Travel 0121 705 7425) and you can travel in Spain and Portugal at no extra cost. If you put a compass point in Faro and the other point in Sevilla that is the extent of the "circle" you can travel to in both countries. We are booking two cars and all driver can drive either car at no extra cost. also pay in sterling with a CC in advance. All sounds good but no-one seems to recommend them...am I missing something ?

We have been allocated Guerin for the last three hires from Faro and they are very good in my view. Each time it has been return full and very quick damage inspection. We have a separate damage insurance and do not accept any extras from Guerin. We trawl the cosolidators sites for the best rates and aim for between £7-10 per day with aircon and out of country insurance included.

On one of our trips we had booked an Hotel and Car Hire with our Airlines recommended partners and paid fully in advance. The flight was ultimately cancelled by the Airline and when we tried to recover our fees from the Hotel and Car Hire company we were hit with cancellation charges which pretty much wiped out the fee. On this basis I try to avoid paying for anything 'up front'. Regarding Car Hire I use 'Luz Cars' from Faro and have never been let down

Hi Mel
We have been using Zit for 2 years with no problems. We book on the internet so have some paperwork, pay cash on arrival, in euros, dont have an excess so when we return the car, they jump in, check the fuel and off we go, it takes 2 mins. Once the car wouldn't start when we were at our apartment so we rang and they would have been there within 1.30hrs (they said) I felt this was a good sign. As it happened the car started and we had no more problems from it. I definately recommend them.

Out of interest how do the prices compare with www.ArgusCarHire.com I use these nearly all the time - and have always thought the prices were good, the cars usually brand new and invariably actually got the car from Hertz/Avis etc?
But if these others are better on price I may give them a go?

I always check out Argus and I must say they always used to meet our target price but less so lately. There are other consolidators who do better now.

We are never out from mid June to Mid September so it might be dearer at the peak times.

Woodzie, thanks for that.

Leighbloke, Zitauto prices I have been given for 1 week early June are:-
a H category car with A/c suitable for 2 adults plus luggage £83
a J category car with A/C suitable for 4 adults plus luggage ( ie a reasonable sized estate ) £130

with the driving terms detailed in my earlier post.

Regards

Hi Steve

mmmm...good point, I know with my previous provider (carhireonline) when our flight was altered and moved 2 days forward, they organised the alterations with travel rent at no extra charge. You are right though, if a flight is cancelled would the car hire company refund the money ? I have asked Zitauto and will post their reply. Have you a web site or email address for Luz Cars please ?

thanks

Re: COSTA ESURI - AYAMONTE

Hi All,

I have just read this extract from the latest ADA Newsletter:

The Chairs of the following Bloques/Portales have commissioned the installation of a TDT (Digital TV) multi-switch in their Bloque/Portales. These have already been adapted to receive the Digital Terrestrial signal. These are: (1-2)(3-1)(5-2)(5- 3)(6-1)(6-2)(7-1)(7-2)(9-1)(9-2)(10-1)(10-2)(10-3)(8-1)(8-2)(8-3)

My Bloque/Portal is on the list. I am unsure of the implications of this. What else if anything, do I now need to do to connect my TV to get digital terrestrial Signals ? At present my TV is connected to the wall outlet by a standard co-ax TV-Aerial lead. What extra channels am I likely to get, apart from the 8 or so Spanish/Portuguese channels I already receive ? Am I right in thinking I still need to get connected to the Satellite Dish on the Apartment roof, and install a digibox to get UK channels ?

Regards
