Why is a BMW 3-Series more expensive than a Ford Mondeo?...

...Because it's more refined, better looking, has better build quality and is less likely to let you down!

Apple do bring out some rubbish though. The new Macbook Air only has one USB port and no CD/DVD Drive, what's the point of that. You'd end up lugging a load of peripherals around with you as well.

The mac clones that econ refers to were absolutely pants. I bought my ex-wife a Motorola one and it was useless.

I wondered about that cos its only as fat as a dvd player. lol

Maybe the Motorola one wasn`t as useless as you thought and really did you a favour with the ex wife. ;-))

Well it might be useless to you or me but style sells, if it had a DVD drive then it would not have been possible to make. I guess Apple has it pointed toward the still advancing world of the internet and it is another angle on the market.

I know several people in the UK and here who bought the cube, not because it was a basic computer but because of the design, it was a bit of a flop at the end of the day though basically because of it's price in comparasion to an iMac.

I seem to have slowly taken this thread away from it's topic, sorry scampicat.

There's no cheap entry point for Macs the way there is for PCs. But now they use Intel components, it's easier to compare side-by-side and in fact you'd be surprised how competitive they are.

Like for like most Macs are cheaper than PCs. PCs only appear cheaper because they have some compromise - especially laptops. Weight, battery life, performance, etc. With Macs you tend to get it all - which is also good when they bring out a new Operating System - because you've not skimped on hardware you don't have to upgrade a la Vista shuffle.

When I spec'd up a new PC last year, it was cheaper (and easier!) for me to move to a MacBook, adding 2GB of RAM and a 250GB HDD myself the whole lot came to under £900 + VAT in total. And with 18 years of laptop, notebook and portable PC ownership under my belt, my MacBook is the best PC I've ever bought
