You sad people.
Yes, lots of us about, although we'd consider it not being as gullible as you. Most of the press is running headlines like "Beckham’s charitable gesture blasted as tax avoidance scheme". The whole setup is to avoid France's incredibly high taxes, that's why the stay is not more than five months, and why his missus and kid's will not live in France. Not that I blame Dave, it's just that I don't think it is the magnanimous gesture that you do.

Beckham and his advisers have dropped a huge clanger on this one.

They would have been better advised to quietly get on with their dodgy dealing than try turning it into a PR stunt that was inevitably going to be rumbled.

Likely some of his entourage who have a big sticky finger in his pie got a little too greedy.

as Vicky appears to not being with him, 5 months seems a long time "on his own", so how long before he is tweeted as being seen with another woman ? ?

Are you sure? Blimey the World's greatest self-publicist does unpublicised private work - I suspect the Brand Beckham marketing team will be furious if they ever find out about such wasted effort

At one wheel chair in a year, it is more wheel chairs than I buy. In 2009 its donations were £11,917 that would be one wheel chair.

Becks?? He's allright, really....just a bit misunderstood, lol.

He arrived in the locker room early one day. Only Roy Keane got there before him.
'What's that yer got dare, Becks?', Roy asks.
'It's a Thermos flask, Roy.'
'Wass one a dem?'
'It keeps cold things cold, and keeps hot things hot', explains Becks confidently.
Suitably impressed, Roy enquires, 'Whatya got in it, den?'
'Two cups of coffee and a choc ice' replies Becks, tucking the flask into his locker.

Can we ever forget that last-minute free kick against Greece?

I don't think anyone here is singling him out as a Saint, but he's done a good thing and why people feel the need to feel so churlish is rather unbecoming, in my opinion.

Possibly the thread title DOES suggest singling him out.

The point most posters seem to make is that the guy is probably no better or no worse than a thousand others.
The only difference being that as a major celeb he revels in all the publicity he can get, whilst many others who have helped out with good causes simply quietly go about their everyday business without any great need for all the razzmatazz and PR stunts etc.

"A Briton", to me, does not signify the only one - it could be one of many. You are at liberty to nominate more if you like!

As I said previously I am not inclined to single anyone out.

Many Brits have done many good deeds and most of them are probably unsung heroes and content to remain that way.

That is partly why I am against the new years honours fiasco as well as the fact that many of the gongs are bought rather than earned.

I would suggest to Mr Beckham that he pockets all the money from his next deal. Giving it away to a charity doesn't seem to have done him many favours, he might as well keep it all for himself.

You're slow to catch on jimenato.

According to various financial experts Beckham Brand have done themselves a huge favour not only by dodging tax and passing on to charity a few million they wouldn't miss anyway, but by vastly increasing revenue from future sales as a result of this crafty PR stunt.

Anyway, best of luck to him I say, if folks are daft enough to fall for it and buy junk gear with his name on at vastly inflated prices, then I'm sure he's entitled to laugh all the way to the bank.
