I was the last of 12 plumber gas fitters 11 from the uk 1 from nz who returned to uk after a nitemare time in oz trying to work as a plumber gasfitter.
I gave up in the end with all the licence c*ap...

There is still plenty of work for tradesmen in the uk plumbers gasfitters especially, you will need to do ACS gas safety etc, contact the 'citb' or your local kent college. cost around 2k but easy...
