Re: The changing seasons of my mind

Very true. Some of the negatives in the UK can go much deeper than the weather. I'm still learning how to avoid them and neutralize them as much as possible. It ain't easy.

Re: The changing seasons of my mind

Sorry to hear you are so homesick.
If it makes you feel any better, I do miss the Indian Ocean, even when those storms roll in and try to remove your house from the face of the earth!

Re: Dog owners: Does anyone have pet insurance?

Yes, I think you'd look good with a lapdog.

Boxer sounds like a good choice. You could get two and call them Simon and Garfunkel.

The Beagle is my favourite, but people say they are noisy and...

Re: Dog owners: Does anyone have pet insurance?

Beautiful!

Did my daughter pay you to post that photo? That's her first choice of breed.

Re: The changing seasons of my mind

You're absolutely right. It is a search, but I think that's the point. I think I've just got to learn to live with the quest for answers because that's just the way I am, even though I know there are...

The changing seasons of my mind

We’ve been back in England for just over a year now (after five years in Japan and four in Perth, Western Australia). There have been some ups and downs along the way, and I haven’t really posted...

Re: Dog owners: Does anyone have pet insurance?

What make of dog are you thinking of getting?

I'm coming under a lot of pressure from the kids to get one. Never had a dog before, so a bit uncertain.

Re: House selling in the UK and silly offers

Sorry to hear about your grandad NB.

Do you have to sell it now? Is there any way you could get it done up and rent it out for a year or two?

Now is not a good time to be a seller in most areas...

Re: Has anyone suffered with new allergies since moving to Australia / WA?

Sounds convincing to me.

I think UV kills them too. Try to sleep in a room that gets direct sunlight. Hang all bedding out in the sun for a few hours, put a mask on, and beat the living daylights...

Re: I can't believe it - a balanced picture of the housing marketin in Perth...

I think you miss the point. These are good news stories for many, many people. Why is it that inflation is generally considered bad, but if it happens to be house price inflation then somehow it is...

Re: February 2009 New House sales figures

The hardship is on a completely different scale these days. It used to be possible for ordinary people earning ordinary wages to buy a decent family house in a nice area with good schools. Now that...

Re: February 2009 New House sales figures

You can get cheap houses in places like Gaza that look the part, palm trees and all, but you wouldn't really want to live there.

Typical of many of your generation of multiple home owners, you try...

Re: Perth- am I missing something here?

No need to duck for cover.

But I must congratulate you on working variations of the "whinging pom", "England in the sun", and the "like it or leave" cliches into a single post.

Having also...

Re: Any Views on Duncraig, Perth?

I'd suggest looking at some of the other threads on schools in the northern suburbs. It really depends on what your expectations are.

In terms of exam results, the schools are good compared with...

Re: Private Schools Perth North of River

Looking at your sums, the shortfall of $3,000 would just be equivalent to your current mortgage, not on top of it. So your overall monthly expenditure on housing would be the same, right? I'm sure it...

Re: Private Schools Perth North of River

Sounds like you have more options now NB, but if it came to it, wouldn't the rent payable in a different suburb still be much lower than the mortgage repayments on your own house? If so, you could...

Re: Private Schools Perth North of River

We moved too. When we realized the full implications of the problem with schools NOR, we sold our large, new, 2-storey house with pool and ocean views that took 2.5 years to build and bought a...

Re: Sensitivity in the MBTUK forum

Definitely.

I have a theory that it's nothing to do with Australia itself, but the idea of Australia. In some it seems to take over the same parts of the mind that get infected with religious...

Re: Dilemma ...

I think the key question is, how likely do you think it is that the other four family members would be less happy in the UK?

Last year I also had three children and a wife who were happy in Perth....

Re: Just Ranting

We had the same cr*p from Canberra.

You can only apply within three months of your intended travel date. And how long does it take? Yes, 12 weeks. Very helpful.

We waited almost 12 weeks and...
