Re: Non UK resident driving your own car

But the insurance company cannot decide if a DL is valid or not, and they wont insure someone to drive without a valid DL.

Re: Non UK resident driving your own car

Aren't driving licences tied to residency so when you still lived in the US (as in were normally resident there) your UK licences were technically invalid? I know there's no way to tell the DVLA that...

Re: Old UK passport - keep it?

It's probably due to PTSD from US Immigration - but I keep a high quality scan of all visas and passports I have had electronically just in case.

Re: Old UK passport - keep it?

Seems like February 2026 will be the go live date for ETAs being required and therefore UK Citizens must get UK Passports to fly to the UK https://www.gov.uk/dual-citizenship

Re: Diversity Visa Program

Is the President supposed to have that power? Isn't DV created by legislation? Of course the Supreme Court will probably side with him regardless I am just curious.

Re: Non UK resident driving your own car

Even if your insurance company says they would cover you using your foreign registered car abroad - which I'd be surprised of - would such a policy meet UK law as a proper level of coverage (i.e. £5...

Re: Non UK resident driving your own car

I'm basically 100% certain you'd need some kind of very expensive custom policy to cover a car registered outside the US or Canada. There's absolutely no way that a US insurance company would have...

Re: No more class II NICs for those living abroad

Hopefully it's light touch to roll over to Class 3.

I'm more worried about this vague 'review' of future contributions - Class 3 is still a very good deal... I wonder if the recent net migration...

Re: GOP senator moves to end dual citizenship

I think it's a good example because of automatic Israeli citizenship granted to individuals who are Jewish, their descendants (children, grandchildren), or their spouses under the the Law of Return....

Re: Traveling to UK Use American or British Passport ?

Personally, I'd keep a valid passport for all my Citizenships (if I had multiple) and treat that as a minor cost of having such a privilege.

No more class II NICs for those living abroad

Looks like this budget is the end of that particular gravy train. I think I'll just about have 10 years total contributions (5 in the UK, 5 from abroad).

Re: Traveling to UK Use American or British Passport ?

Thanks for sharing - this is basically 'how you're supposed to do it' - but requires both passports. TSA would be happy with any Passport (or RealID Driving License, Global Entry Card etc.) - they...

Re: Traveling to UK Use American or British Passport ?

Unless your profile gets a flag on it like I did for a few years post COVID - every entry to the UK was rejected by the eGates. It was frustrating to watch my American other half walk right through,...

Re: Relocating to US from UK

The issue is, compared to your experience, someone moving internationally automatically has a higher cost of living than a local. Most Brits assume America is cheap, partially a hangover from the...

Re: Relocating to US from UK

$132k per year is not very much in NYC anymore, especially for someone relocating from the UK. That's approx $6k per month in NYC (Federal, State and NYC local), which means to spend 33% of income on...

Re: Getting through Customs/Immigration faster at US airports - MPC App

I've started using the GE app, which is good because you can declare things easily in there without having to go and find a CBP officer. I take the selfie while waiting to exit the aircraft and...

Re: Immigration / Usa living

My understanding is that after a certain age travel insurance becomes basically impossible as the costs are so high should something go wrong. Also, you have to be careful with the fineprint of how...

Re: Traveling to UK Use American or British Passport ?

Interesting - I wouldn't be on this being the case every time. I am also pretty sure the ETA requirement is still being 'phased in'

Re: Traveling to UK Use American or British Passport ?

The issue is not at the UK Border - the issue is getting an airline to board you without one of these things: 1) A British Passport 2) An ETA 3) Some other travel document like a visa or residency...

Re: Moving to the US - UK ISA and LISA Clarity

Unless you need the cash, I'd just leave it where it is as a hedge that you may return to the UK at some point or the rules changed.

Re: BBC online now charging US located persons?

Ultimately, it's about how much you care about 'doing the right thing' - personally, I do use a VPN but only for content I can't even purchase if I wanted to. Or, if I am travelling for a short trip...
