But there is still only one set of immigration rules. Having a 'vision' will not change that unless your vision includes a way for you to fit into the system as it stands.

Is that the ETA? I last went to Aus in 2008 and the travel agent did that for me-no cost and nothing stamped in my passport apart from an entry stamp.
Has it changed since then?

Not with a UK passport you don't. NZ have a visa waiver system for certain countries. A British passport allows you to enter for up to 6 months...
