small kids are naturally inquisitive, if you have a large dog, you have to make sure that kids can't just wander in off the street, regardless if they should be there or not.

Personally I agree with this also, but I also understand that some people enjoy shooting guns for sport and others enjoy having larger vehicles, 4x4's etc.

I agree with what you say in principle, but it would very much depend on the size of the dog and your own relevant strength, I certainly wouldn't advise anyone taking hold of a vicious 50kg Rottie...

All dogs, large and small, should be kept on a leash, unless in a designated area.
Not everyone likes dogs and should not have to tolerate an unknown dog running up to them, even if it is friendly.
