Perhaps I wasn't clear. She has a job in Vancouver for the Feds. Because it's for the Feds it sometimes entails trips to Ottawa. I don't think she would have the job, in Vancouver, but for speaking...

Eh? The DTES is in Vancouver. UBC is in Vancouver. She hasn't left Vancouver but succeeded there partly in consequence of speaking French.

I vaguely recall reading the book but I picture life in Mississauga (NotQEW), Plano, Aurora and so on as more closely matching the endless episodes of Desperate Housewives.

The Guelph area actually has a fair number of francophones. They arrived at the time of Bill 401, when the insurance companies relocated from Montreal to K-W.

I think you understate the degree to which French is spoken in Toronto but my point is not that everyone in Canada speaks French, just that Canada may be a more sensible destination for a francophone...

Once upon a time, that would have been huge. Today we stopped at a bar advertising 9' TV's. The screens were, indeed, massive but Adebayor stank on each of them.
