You will be able to gain sponsorship from a US Company, then leave within 6 months and roam free on your H1b.

Your wife can set up her consultancy company and work via a UK entity on a visa...

well exactly, and the red flag will be flying if you lead a $100,000 a year lifestyle on $50,000 a year wages.

There was a case on here where a guy worked at walmart, as he'd just sold his house...
