Re: UK Driving license in BC

I just called ICBC too. First lady I spoke to didn't have a clue and thought I would still have to take a test. I was then transferred to a gentleman in the licensing department who confirmed that as...

Re: Job prospects in Alberta

I know what you mean there are a lot of idiots here but also there's a lot of good people with sound advice so keep at it and ignore the trolls and best of all don't bite any bait.

I'm not...

Re: Any ex UK Nurses regulars here?

Yeah Bi-Weekly pay is very common - in fact I don't know a single person in any profession that isn't paid bi-weekly (though I'm sure there must be some).

I'm sure some some hospitals aren't as...

Re: Unlocked UK iPhone 3GS - Canadian Sim/Plan Options?

All iPhone's have identical hardware no matter what region you purchase it in so you will have no problems getting it to work on one of the networks here with it being unlocked.

I myself have a...

Re: Any ex UK Nurses regulars here?

My young lady is a mental health nurse. She also said the practices are way out of date, in her estimation by about 20 years (I have no idea myself).

The best candidates for new opportunities...

Re: Transferring money

I personally brought a few thousand in cash / travellers cheques and got a UK Credit Card before I left which I made sure I'd be allowed to use over here (Abbey Zero).

All the stuff I needed to...

Re: Work Worries

From what I've been told all the health authorities have job freezes on non-critical positions including IT. I was told this by a PHSA HR lady after we got talking (I was accompanying my lady as she...

Re: Work Worries

I'd have to say (based on my own personal experience too) that it does seem that way. It's tough here for sure.

Re: 5 months today.

I'm glad things are going well for you. I'm at the 3 1/2 month stage myself and feeling pretty settled too.

In my opinion 5 months is extremely too early to go back and it poses a big risk in...

Re: Is it Real?!

I booked through them and came in June (thomas cook plane). Cheaper than the others by hundereds, no problems and even found them to be accomodating in going over our baggage allowance without any...

Re: Work Worries

Don't want to be one of the worry-mongers here but I'm in IT (Infrastructure Support, Disaster Recovery etc) I moved over here in June. Even if you're legal it's not an easy thing.

I have a...

Re: X-Box 360 UK games in Canada

I know only certain ones will work.

(I don't know if this is worth anything to you but...) I brought over from the UK Halo 3, Gears Of War 2, and Street Fighter 4 and they all work fine but FIFA...

Re: UK Licence '90 Day' Loophole?

Case closed then.

I'm sufficiently paranoid not to go through with it even if I end up in that situation. If she fails she can take the bus, it'll take longer but we'll be legal and without worry...

Re: Getting Car Insurance with a UK Drivers Licence

Specific dates of when you held the UK insurance from with the NCB - start and finish of the policy (which is more confusing if you've had more than one company, luckily we didn't).

Like The...

Re: Uk Tv in Canada

OK, well it works fine at the moment so i'll enjoy it up until then but looks like it's not worth anyone else pursuing a similar setup as me if this is the case.

Re: UK Licence '90 Day' Loophole?

They definitely don't, I'm not mentioned on the insurance anywhere as it is all in my fiancée's name with her licence details not mine. I can just drive it with her approval.

Nevermind though it...

Re: UK Licence '90 Day' Loophole?

I would imagine so too but as I accompanied my OH who was going through immigration to get her TWP I just shown them my passport and it was never scanned, stamped or held briefly for anything longer...

Thank you for the replies, like I said I certainly don't wish to have to enter this 'grey area' and the replies mentioning the insurance will be invalid and I'll actually doing something illegal...

UK Licence '90 Day' Loophole?

So, today I went into a ICBC branch to try and find out when you're 90 day limit to drive on your UK Licence starts. Obviously, they said it starts from the moment you land in Canada and become a...

Re: What car

I can definitely agree that BC cars are expensive.

2 weeks ago I got a 1999 Toyota Corolla (in good condition, low mileage) for $5,250 (incl tax, 8 month warranty). Very expensive I know, but in...

Re: Getting Car Insurance with a UK Drivers Licence

Just thought I'd update for anybody who's interested : We now are in Vancouver and have a car. Our insurance for an average Toyota Corolla was $1,825 that was after a 35% discount, this is fully...
