Corrie is around 10 months behind the UK on BBC Canada (5 days a week plus Sunday omnibus).

Eastenders used to be a few years behind but I haven't a clue if it caught up - stopped watching all that doom and gloom before I left the UK. Now Corrie, on the other hand..........

YAY! Exactly! Beastlyenders'Nuff said! We did our research as to when Corrie would catch up to the last episode that we saw.... and waited! It was worth the wait, but on reflection, we should have started watching it right away and maybe caught Bradley Walsh again "Fuzz & Chutney!" Wish he'd come back! At least you get a laugh with Corrie!

I'm a Mac user in Vancouver (though this solution should work on PC) and this is what I recommend people to do.

1. Download and install Zattoo http://zattoo.com/

2. Register an account for Zattoo (simple, requires email address)

3. Purchase a VPN connection. I use OpenVPN from Witopia which is $59.99 USD (I used shxpt for discount) : http://www.witopia.net/index.php/products/

4. Configure your VPN client with the config (and if you don't have one for the mac I suggest Viscosity). And make sure you've edited the config script Witopia provided you with (emailed on purchase) to always connect to a UK gateway.

5. Connect to the VPN connection, open Zattoo, login and away you go!

I've been using this for 11 days and it's been great so far (watched the England Vs Slovenia game saturday to avoid PPV charges) but today I had problems getting Zattoo to work so I couldn't watch the Croatia game (I think it was a VPN issue to be honest as the ping was 190ms).

Overall in 11 days I've watched endless hours, probably too much, of UK TV and mid morning today was the only time I had issues (..but you could always look for another UK VPN company if you're not too sure on Witopia but they seemed the cheapest and I'd been recommended to them myself).

Just thought I'd post this to let you know how I do it, hopefully it may help somebody. I'm not sure on the whole legality of it all but I still have a UK TV Licence so I kind of justify it to myself knowing that

PS Once you have a UK VPN you can use it for accessing other things like BBC iPlayer etc.

I have a gut feeling that there will be better PC/TV related technology, not too far away!!!

BBC Canada (from what I've heard) is not that reliable, if you seek (almost) up to date TV progs from the UK and paying good money for "special" services ... well, you may not be as impressed as you'd hope to be.

Some of what's been mentioned above are "alternatives" ... so it really depends on what you want to throw at it, but at the end of the day, there are always options.

This thread is cool. I don't really miss any UK tv that much except Come Dine with Me. I love that show lol and wish they had it on BBC Canada instead of Top Gear.

You will soon find that Zattoo isn't reliable.
It is also a matter of time before your VPN IP gets banned from Zattoo servers, like they've already done for their French and Swiss services. That's because there will be many people (from here) using the same IP addresses as you at the same time.

OK, well it works fine at the moment so i'll enjoy it up until then but looks like it's not worth anyone else pursuing a similar setup as me if this is the case.

We found an Excellent site, loads of UK programs, lots free, or very cheap:

Specialise in Brit programs - from Dr Who to Jonathon Ross show.....you download at the box.bz site, then add VLC (to stream and run your programs).

Move to Flashcard - then load on DVD or TV with USB port, or just watch on computer. You get loads free then can pay 20 Euros for a chunk, we've used this site for 4 months, paid on average 10 Euros / month. Had loads of stuff, we NEVER watch Canadian TV, awful productions, over commercialised....

Also, download Radio programs - to an i-pod - play i-pod in your car, with an 'i-pod holder' ($30 from Canadian Tire), i-pod Classic player ($240 approx.)

But again, I've had Desert Island Discs, Chris Evans show Radio 2 etc. to play in the car, free Podcasts at i-pod site...... (I commute an hour, so this is a God send...)

I'm not a computer buff, but found box.bz easy to download and run, 'bug free' it's 'well maintained'

use a nice apps called iplayer grabber instead of streaming. not in canada yet so was wondering if it works may need vpn
