Re: Canadians headed to Australia

Thanks

Wow, that's coming up quickly. Where are you going? We're starting off on the Sunshine Coast, but longer-term will depend on where OH finds a job.

Best of luck with everything!...

Re: Canadians headed to Australia

Haven't called DIAC about it yet, so that's a good start for us too (baby's 2 months). Another thousand bucks tho? if i recall correctly, our eldest was simply added to my visa as a dependent,...

Anything you've regretted NOT bringing with you?

In the final frantic days before making the big move, during the process of selling/donating/storing/general purging of your worldly possessions, is there anything you've truly regretted not packing...

Re: Brisbane apt with kitchen, anyoe seen heard or stayed at Diana Plaza South Bank??

We stayed at the Spring Hill Mews for a few days in 2004. Great place, very clean, quite reasonably priced with full kitchen and pool. Would definitely stay there again (with 2-year old). Here's...

Re: Canada to Australia

Thanks, Comet555 and Dorothy. We did travel over last fall (no layovers, just a couple hrs in each of TO, Vancouver & Hawaii!!) when our son was a year, but thankfully he was easy to entertain with...

Re: Canada to Australia

Any suggestions for a portable (and toddler-proof) DVD player that is reasonably priced and has dual-compatibility i.e. plays both Aus and Canadian DVD formats? Or is there such a thing on the...

Re: Canada to Australia

We're actually planning on moving to the Sunshine Coast, so I guess that's not exactly Brisbane area, but will depend on OH's job prospects too. Easy to forget actual distances as more time passes,...

Re: Canada to Australia

That's too funny! I'm glad to hear there's some hope of losing the hoser accent, hard rollin' R's and all. The latest thing on the American networks is to lambaste Sarah Palin, McCain's...

Re: Canada to Australia

We're moving to the Brisbane area early next year. Can't offer any advice on this (we'll have a 2-yr old in tow, not quite in high school yet!) but just wanted to say best wishes and best of luck...

Re: Do airlines still do migrant packages?

Do any of the U.S.-based airlines offer extra luggage allowance? Tried Air Canada, to no avail, but would consider flying from the States if this was offered.

Re: Canada to Australia

Our (preliminary) estimates ranged from $7,000 (door-to-port) to $14,000 - $20,000 (door-to-door) from Thunder Bay to Brisbane. Understandably, we're leaning toward the door-to-port option. Haven't...

Re: Canada to Australia

Yes, we're currently weighing our options. Tempting to go for the (much) less expensive option of freight-forwarding, but would definitely not look forward to the added stress that comes with it.

Re: Canada to Australia

Just wanted to say thanks all for the invaluable info. This is my first post, but I've been loitering about on the forum for some time now, and it has helped us tremendously. We're moving from...
