Re: Rural Fire Brigade, CFA, Rural Fire Service

Hi Sean,

Congratulations, it must make you feel good. May I ask how old you are? I ask as I have considered volunteering myself but fear I am too old.

Re: UK - a nation short of pools and soap!

I would actually change that title to a nation short of grass and facilities.

When I left the UK 5 years ago, the area I lived in had a lot of grassed areas and every one had a "no ball games"...

Re: So if it gets dark at 5pm in Brisbane, what do you do in the evening?

But, it's the middle of winter. When I was in the UK it went dark at 3.30 in the middle of winter. 5.30 is fantastic.

Re: Can you sell return flights?

They are normally non transferable and non cancelable. However, they are probably upgradeable - the airlines always allow people to change their ticket for a dearer one. Upgrade your ticket to one...

Re: Predictions for exchange rate over next three months?

I also think $1.90 could be possible but not probable. The $2.00 is such a big psychological level that I don't think it will go below it, at least not in the next 3 months.

Re: Crows!!!

Can someone check whether Ducks are on the "allowed to shoot" list. The piles, no mountains, of crap they leave around your pool soon makes you change your view of them. I'd rather have Crows (or...

Re: Exchange Rates

The inflation you are talking about is rising fuel and food costs and these are the same around the world. Fuel and food prices increased in the UK and so they dropped the interest rate!! Go figure....

Re: UK inheritance Tax V Australia Capital Gains Tax

Re: UK inheritance Tax V Australia Capital Gains Tax

AFAIAA, if you move to Australia any capital gain will be forgotten. You get a one time chance to import everything you own with no tax implications. If you leave a house in the UK and sell it later,...

Re: Visiting Fraser Island?

We have been a few times and you should be aware that there are no tarmac roads (except in Eurong). You need a good four wheel drive, a Rav4 or CRV won't do. Google "fraser island driving" for an...
