You were there up to '04, so you know what happened surely?

When Al Hamra was hit in May 2003 (damaging the school also), there was a significant exit of families, a drop in applications to work...

My son (now a teenager) still recalls fondly that it had a "proper" tank parked on the approach road and two machine gun posts at the entrance (non of his friends in UAE believe him though...!)

That's a good point - 2nd hand is a good option in a transient place like AD. More for furniture personaly than electrical goods, as even spanking new only seem to last 5 minutes these days

Even if your contract is AD, I'd go with a studio or 1 bed in the new buillds south of Dubai, the difference in AD rents are still significant enough to make it worth your while. Lots more...
