Re: UK Foods in the US Share your finds!

Thank you - my daughter lives outside DC so I'll have to send her to look.

It's not on their website, but I realize that might not mean much.

Re: UK Foods in the US Share your finds!

Ha! Isn't that always the way? You can't get whatever it is, so then you (or rather I) want it.

Re: UK Foods in the US Share your finds!

I don't much care for them, so I haven't purchased them, but I have seen them in my local Indian grocer. They also sell Enos for when you overindulge on the Bourbons. It might be worthwhile checking...

Re: I think I messed up sending C1 to Washington

I thought you could call a UK number. I know it's not cheap, but it's on the Embassy website. http://ukinusa.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/passports/how-to-apply/usa

Re: I think I messed up sending C1 to Washington

It was a renewal. I was quite surprised: I thought with the holidays etc it would take longer.

Re: I think I messed up sending C1 to Washington

Incidentally, FYI my application arrived at the embassy on the 14th and I received my new passport today, the 23rd, which is a pretty fast turnaround to my mind. I didn't ask for expedited processing...

Re: How much is health cover if self employed/unemployed?

Actually, I'd go with a fairly large deductible, but unless this is going to be for a relatively short period of time (less than 5 years) I'd be inclined to go with a more comprehensive policy: when...

Re: How much is health cover if self employed/unemployed?

My husband and I pay $1600 a month for Blue cross/Blue shield. We have a fair deductible $100/$500 (individual/maximum per year). For reference he is 60, I'm 54 and we both have a history of cancer....

Re: I think I messed up sending C1 to Washington

You say you sent it "overnight". On that basis you should have some form of tracking number. Mind you, if it can't be delivered, it should be returned to you fairly quickly.

Having said that, I...

Re: Wallgreens UK Passport Photo (photo)

I think it must vary by walgreens: I only got 2 and they were cut to the correct size.

Re: UK Foods in the US Share your finds!

Has anyone tried Aldi's "british style" chocolate? It may not be exactly like Cadburys, but it's a lot better than (yuck) hersheys, and that "made in america" Cadburys rubbish.

It's also very...

Re: Notes for Form C1 (specifically countersignatures)

So you just leave section 9 blank? Even though when you have completed Section 8 says to go to section 9?

This is, (can I just say?) nuts. I don't think I've ever filled out an "official" form...

Notes for Form C1 (specifically countersignatures)

I have read (many, many, many) threads that indicate that when renewing a UK passport in the US you do not need to get a countersignature (assuming you don't look a lot different and your passport...

Re: Different cities, different cars.......

It's all down to supply and demand - if you're looking at something that's in short supply then you're going to end up paying more for it. I'm not talking about new cars. The number I add my $200 is...

Re: Different cities, different cars.......

Two actually. Kelly blue book and/or consumer reports. If you've never tried it, then you don't know how it works. $200 profit is a reasonable amount.

Re: Different cities, different cars.......

Can't speak to the availability of deals etc here in Pittsburgh, but one thing I will say about haggling: when I'm buying a "new" car, I work out what the dealer would have paid for it, add a $100...

Re: Finance advice for uk intern ??xxx

You'd obviously have to check what rate of exchange you could expect to get and any fees. Nationwide is considered best when it comes to withdrawing funds overseas - the problem though that I can...

Re: Finance advice for uk intern ??xxx

If you're coming for 6 months only, I'm not sure why you would wish to transfer your savings here. However, if you do need to access them for living expenses, you'll probably find that using your ATM...

Re: Error by me and them?

Check your state's DMV. When you find the appropriate information on the website that you do not need the I-94, print it out and take it with you. The first minion you talk to may not be able to help...

Re: kippers - can I get them in the usa?

If you google "kippers" several suppliers come up. You'll probably be buying several pounds though.

Re: It's a long road to a New Jersey licence

You think the old passport would work? That wouldn't occur to me. Anyway it's academic - I'm not moving to NJ :D

I do get fed up with different states/different systems though. I know why it's...
