Re: Exchange foreign driver licence in Oman

They'll issue an Omani licence with no problem if you already have a European licence. You might need to do a quick eye test, but it's very simple. You will also need to know your blood type,...

Re: Oman - Muscat

Which part of Muscat will you be working in? I'd avoid Al Mouj if it means you're heading in the direction Qurum everyday, and vice versa. The traffic in/out of Al Mouj and on 18th November Street...

Re: Oman

It appears the the ruling family decided to just follow Qaboos' wishes and not spend 3 days arguing about it. The letter was opened immediately.

Re: Schools in Muscat

British School Muscat is probably the best. It's in an area called Madinat Al Sultan Qaboos (MSQ) - i'd recommend trying to live in this area as well.

Re: Kuwait 3500KDN per month - worth it?

I think you'll be ok on 3500 KDs.

Per month:
600 - 1000 for a nice apartment in a European expat building.
200 for an ok hire car (until you buy)
150 - 200 groceries (my wife and I go fairly...

Re: Moving to Ajman or Sharjah in UAE

+1 for Mirdif. It's changed so much since I lived there back in 2007 but I had a great time. I still always go back to Uptown Mirdif for old times' sake when i'm in DXB. Unfortunately the cafe I used...

Re: Moving to Kuwait

Hi,

I've been in Kuwait for 18 months now, it was a bit of a shock after having lived in sleepy Muscat for 5 years. I can write a bit more later or answer any specific questions if you have any....

Re: Setting up home broadband, Muscat

OmanTel is your best bet for internet, take your residence card to one of their stores and they will usually get a technician out to your home within a couple of days. They will show you a Google...

Re: Opening bank account with HSBC oman

I think you will need to do this when you get back to Muscat. You will probably need to visit the bank, I opened my account at the branch in Madinat Sultan Qaboos. I actually switched from HSBC to...

Re: Getting a car in Muscat

My company put me in a hotel just opposite the main Porsche dealer in Muscat. I spent quite a lot of time looking out the window at the nice shiny cars. I test drove a second hand Cayman a few weeks...

Re: Getting a car in Muscat

Avoid buying a second hand car from an Omani - it will have been thrown around at the weekends when they drive home to their villages. Check out OLX and try to find something from an expat family,...

Re: Job offer in Muscat

Good morning!

I think 3000 OMR might be a little low for yourself. I've now left Muscat, but when I was there I was single and living alone. My salary was in the 2500-3000 OMR range, which for me,...

Re: Package info on Oman

The salary looks a little low to me. Remember that the exchange rate back to GBP is good at the moment, I think I got £2.09 for my Omani Rials the other day. When I first arrived here 3 years ago I...

OT but hey-ho....

It's completely banned here in Oman. You can't buy them here and the police will confiscate if they catch you bringing one in to the country.
