3's deals look like good value, but it would be worth checking their coverage maps. Last time I checked, their Network was good in the urban areas but not so strong in the boondocks.

The question of whether to retain UK £ investments in UK or to move your £ to Aus is tricky.

Example for 1 year:

UK Building Society Interest say 1%
UK inflation say 3%
After 1 year, loss = ...

Maybe you need to check which Bank? Barclays Code readers are universal but HSBC's are personal and will only work with the registered owners security stuff.

Its not easy for > 65 with medical issues.

BTW, anybody out there over 65 and hasn't got medical issues? The way the clauses are worded (seen doctor/outpatients/specialist last 6 mths,on meds etc)...

Maybe another important question here is how solid are currency brokers like HFX, Moneycorp etc. Ther are not banks and are not regulated like banks and for a brief period whilst your transfer takes...

Suppose I emigrate in June, do I get my full UK personal allowances (income AND capital gains) or does it get pro-rated to the proportion of the year I was in UK?

conrad - Noted, but my point is that any $ gain you enjoy through Exch rate movements will be regarded as "CGT event" and taxed.

Likely to move out to Aus permanently mid this year. Are there any reasons to make the move after 20 Jun (= end of Aus Tax Year) or doesn't it matter?

I realise the HMRC will want tax returns...

Could you state your total financial position in 2-3 yrs time (whenever you might get a visa) given you don't know what your house would be worth at that time,...
