Re: boring i know.....

Hi, you can get introductory rates, but there will be a higher penalty to close the mortgage within say the first 4 years, so they often work out to be more expensive than a non-introductory rate....

Re: Are the worst estate Agents in Melbourne right now!?

Hi, could I suggest that you use a buyers agent. We did that recently with a purchase in Perth. We knew of a local real estate agent that we trusted and when we wanted to view a property, we let her...

Hiya, I came to Oz on a spouse visa in 1994, went back to UK after 12 months (with my wife) and returned back to live in Perth in 2003 (with a few holiday visits in between). We had to keep renewing...

Re: BA or Emirates?

We've always had great flights with Emirates - very clean, great service, good food - every bit worth the extra dosh. Would fly with them over BA or Qantas. BTW saw on the news that Australians...

Re: Moving to Perth in 15 months or so.....too "late" for housing prices????

Prices in Perth are coming off a little at the moment, but thats a good thing really. No one predicted the boom weve had over the last few years and so no one really knows how it will pan out....

Re: House buying from the UK

Hi, I think you should find it fairly straightforward. Best first point of call may be the Foreign Investment Review Board.

www.firb.gov.au

They may need to authorise any property purchase you...

Re: Guys - Do you give your Train seat to women who are standing up?

Yeah, that was how I was brought up too. But after a few years of commuting in rush hour in and out of London I'd had plenty of opportunities to be shivilrous, and quite often I'd get a right dirty...

Re: perth housing..

Very true, and the banks are all tightening their mortgage assesments on the back of this. Worse hit is Western Sydney though, it's pretty bad there from what I can tell although I've not heard of...

Re: Credit ratings, loans and some such matters

Hi, true when you arrive you will have a blank credit report. Therefore whenever you apply for any kind of credit, there will be no past credit information for that lender to refer back to. In most...

Re: Australia vs UK?

Fair comment. They use profiles a lot, I think that takes a bit of getting used to, but makes it easier to chuck em down. You hear alot hear that brickies are getting a $1 + per brick, but I'm not...

Re: First time buyer grant when one person isn't

Hi Seabird, it may well be similar to WA. Maybe try contacting:

http://www.revenuesa.sa.gov.au/

regarding stamp duty questions, or try talking to a local settlement agent/conveyancer.

Re: First time buyer grant when one person isn't

Full stamp duty would only apply if it was an on the market purchase. I'm pretty sure that only a reduced rate of duty would be applicable to add you to the title.

Re: Anyone know of mortgages in Oz similar to Virgin One ?

The MyRate loan looks quite good, like the no fees, but the rate seems a little high. You can get something that would work farily similar with ANZ directly at a 0.38% lower rate for an average loan...

Re: First time buyer grant when one person isn't

A settlement agent or conveyancer is someone who specialises in the legal side of property transactions. There should be plenty listed in the yellow pages for the city you are in.
