Where is this information from? As long as you are returning to take up permenant residence the NHS should be free, my husband and I moved back to the UK in 07 and had no problems to immediate care....

You may want to check out uk-yankee, its mainly Americans moving to the UK, but they may have some ideas on where to start with accomodation as I am sure some moved over without family ties etc.
