Re: Lemon Law?

Apologies for delay in coming back with a response - a 24 hour 'bug' hit me and I'm just shaking it off.

The 'Wikipedia' definition sums up the situation perfectly, I asked the question because I...

Lemon Law?

I never gave a thought to there being a 'Lemon Law' in Spain as there is in various States in the USA - but I've been told today that there is, and that some lawyers 'specialise' in administering the...

Re: Banking hours Torremolinos.

Okay thanks for prompt response. Barring French A/T delays, I should make it by 2.00pm no problem :D .

Thanks again.

Banking hours Torremolinos.

I've checked out the Free Beer info and have discovered that banking hours are 9.00 am to 2.00 pm - I'm just checking to see if these times are seasonal? I have a feeling that my bank, BBVA in...

Re: Net access to bank account.

Thank you one and all, you have confirmed what I had thought i.e. it will have to wait until my return to Spain in September.

I think Sanrod has touched upon what I had thought was a possibility -...

Net access to bank account.

I've done a brief 'search' of past threads but have found nothing so far.

I have a non-residents current account with BBVA in Torremolinos. I have a cheque book and a Bank Card (with PIN) for...

Re: Sinking Ship?

Shortly after I purchased my first apartment in 1989. I realised that many Brits were leaving Spain becuase the cost of living had shot up. They weren't used to it.

Time moved on and the migration...

Re: IHT, Usufruct, Limited Companies & wills

Is it my imagination - or has this thread come to a dead halt, sorry, will re-phrase that - has it come to a sudden stop?

Are we all stumped as to ways to minimise future tax bills?

Re: It's cold outside. How are you coping?

I think that last winter was said to be the coldest for 50 years (which suggests it was even colder 51 years ago!) so I've looked at ways to warm-up our relatively small apartment (near Benlamdena)....

Re: IHT, Usufruct, Limited Companies & wills

Approximately 20 years ago, when doing some freelance video work on the Sol, I was approached by a UK based agent who was selling 'Five owner's Club' apartments, involving a UK based Ltd Co, that...

Re: IHT, Usufruct, Limited Companies & wills

That was the advice given to me by my Fiscal Representative when I went specifically to 're-structure' the ownership of one of my properties. He felt that to do so now, would incur fairly heavy...

Re: IHT, Usufruct, Limited Companies & wills

Perhaps I can race Fred James here by quoting his original post to my queries many moons ago - the calculation is simple yet fascinating -

"Calculation of the value of the usufruct is actually...

Re: IHT, Usufruct, Limited Companies & wills

There are more knowledgeable folk on here who are better equipped to give you the full answer to that, but as I see it, the value of the property being passed as a gift or by sale, is diminished...

Re: IHT, Usufruct, Limited Companies & wills

I have gone through these very same mental hoops when I discovered my familiy's potential 'exposure' to huge tax bills after my days. I had lots of advice, much of it from our very own Fred James,...

Re: New rates of CGT in Jan 2010?

Thank you both - I am confused about this as one estate agent calculated my tax liability on the basis of the 11.11% allowance, whereas this other says it does not apply. I don't expect tax advice...

New rates of CGT in Jan 2010?

Apologies for resurrecting the CGT question again (I've done a search but to no avail) and shooting a double-barreled query.

Firstly, I've engaged an Estate Agent to sell my apartment in...

Re: Inheritance tax

It is so easy to become complacent when looking at IHT or rather, the tax known in Spain as ISD. Yes, some folk are able to become resident and thus gain certain benefits, others are 'holiday home'...

Re: Wanted - a good stripper.

Thanks for that - I'm wondering about using one of those portable/hand steam-cleaners for clearing the pores (of the bricks - not my facial skin) as the softened paint may then be forced out. Just a...

Wanted - a good stripper.

No, no, calm down - it's a good quality, effective paint stripper I need, one which is available in Spain (Costa del Sol) and one which will strip paint from a brick and mortar arch over a breakfast...

Re: A Taxing problem once again.

Thanks again - these calculations are turning out to be far more 'taxing' than I had thought (ouch, that pun was so obvious) but as you say, they do pull the final payments down substantially.

I'm...
