Re: UK Passport Photo in USA

Okay, I just paid the 3 quid to ask the passport office on live chat.
Told them that Walgreens printed them slightly over. Their response was:

Beki said: Yes, do not cut them yourself, send them...

Re: UK Passport Photo in USA

5 years ago, I send untrimmed pics from the Walgreens UK passport picture setting. That was fine. They cut them out and sent it back to me.

This time, I went to pop the renewal in the mail for my...

Re: Must have or most useful products?

Can't manage being without my Kindle., Had it 2 years now, have hundreds of books on it and it goes everywhere with me. Not to mention the 3G on it so I can check my emails on it too.
The best for...

Re: Missing home!!!

I'd stick it out a little longer... especially as this time of year can be rough away from home. I get homesick too so I feel for you!

p.s. I order some special treat foods from Amazon. Had to get...

Re: Passport name different to GC

Thanks everyone. It's really bloody hard being thousands of miles away when something like this happens, isn't it?

Thanks re the heads up on passport prices going down again. I had actually...

Re: Passport name different to GC

Thanks Elvira. I'm glad I asked b/c I would have done it the other way around. Not thinking properly really.

Not sure if I can afford a ticket yet but trying to get organized just in case. My...

Passport name different to GC

Hi, sorry if this has been answered many times, I did try a search.

Basically, I've never gotten around to changing my passport name to my married name although my greencard & everything else are...

Re: Tearing down buildings in the name of progress

Yes, I always get pretty upset when I see the nicer older buildings torn down. Recently our nearest city was due to tear down a lovely Victorian 3 storey home to replace it with parking lot. Someone...

Re: Smelly water query

Oh me too!

My well water is dark dark orange & stinks to high heaven. It's just the nastiest thing ever.

A one-off chlorine dump helped us for about 2 days before it all came back & it did...

Re: UKC marrying USC - any advice appreciated!

Has the law changed in recent years? Not too long ago, name on birth certificate did not give parental responsibility. Only marriage to the mother or the courts could give PR to the father.

If...

Re: (Yes another) England To Chicago

Yes, that's what I meant. It was pending & if they denied, then I'd be back to square one but it wouldn't be an overstay because they permitted me to stay while awaiting the decision. Like I said...

Re: (Yes another) England To Chicago

I'm not sure, just going by my experience. A few weeks before we go married I met with my atty to work out the best options. Her answer was that as long as both the marriage and application for AOS...

Re: (Yes another) England To Chicago

When I did it, I was told no, it wouldn't be an classed as an overstay as I was in "pending" status. But that's just what I was told - I do not know the official answer.

Re: (Yes another) England To Chicago

Agree with that. If you don't need to go back to the UK, get that attorney and travel if you have to for a good one. I came on the VWP and made a similar decision (without the little package though)....

Re: Getting my American son a British passport

I dunno. That doesn't make it very pricey though. Isn't that similar getting a copy of your birth certificate or US citizenship certificate? For example, my DD is on my naturalization application...

Re: Cell phone help

SIMs are fairly recent addition here though, aren't they? When I tried to get one 5 years ago, the cell phone store told me "there's no such thing". I got ran home, dug out my old UK mobile phone and...

Re: It's gotta be easier than this?

Um, you're partly right, at least from my POV. I'd consider going back home to avoid my senior years being filled with worries about my health.

Mostly I'd go because I just prefer a society that...

Re: Do you ever approach fellow British people in the US?

Me too. I watch every British show on TV just to hear it.

There are VERY few Brits were I live. There was a Scottish woman whose daughter went to the same school as mine but she moved. I've only...

Re: Getting my American son a British passport

Registering a birth is $184 now. Still not cheap though.

Re: It's gotta be easier than this?

You really were lucky. Around us, businesses are closing daily so those who lose a job really have no options or anywhere to turn for another job. They are all SOL.

Re: It's gotta be easier than this?

OMG how gross. But as said earlier, in UK you'd surely be able to fire for that. I mean indecent exposure doesn't even begin to cover that.

Exactly. What are the job losses and uninsured...

Re: Culture shocks?

Oh, another culture shock for me was how many others moms are stay-at-home rather than have careers. I don't find it as much so up in PA, but in VA when I said I worked, other mums would give the...

Re: Culture shocks?

I hope that given time, it will ease off both ways. In reality, many real race issues were not long ago at all. Kids & young adults listen to GPs or even parents to hear first hand accounts of legal...
