Re: Any Brits in Naples area?

Possibly we'll be there soon ourselves. My wife is considering a job offer there and I'm self employed so could be on for Spring 08. I'd be surprised if there weren't any there besides you.

Re: Walmart - the end of an era

[QUOTE=Tracym;5432761]It's not so much not caring.

As far as capping litigation, well I dunno. There's a balance between not having ridiculous awards, and discouraging doctors from being careless...

Re: Walmart - the end of an era

[QUOTE=Tracym;5424040]So what's the answer? Outlaw large stores? Outlaw low prices?

The answer in communities that realise the threat of WalMart is to do what many have - fight it at the...

Re: Remember the old TV ads and jingles?

Back in the 70's Smith's Crisps had a huge share of the market - probably close to 90%. I worked for Ross Foods, a div of Imperial Tobacco and they also owned a large potato operation nr Peterborough...

Re: Walmart - the end of an era

What's the price of low prices to the community? The small stores die leaving boarded up stores on Main Street. There are then less jobs overall and mostly at lower wages with weak or non-existent...

Re: Remember the old TV ads and jingles?

Hamlet Cigar ads were a classic.....
An ex-boss of mine created the campaign for Strand cigarettes in the 60's (?). The theme was "you're never alone with a Strand" and the TV commercial showed a...

Remember the old TV ads and jingles?

My favorite ad as a kid in the UK was for Farrow's Canned Peas. The peas came tumbling down a slide and rushed through a grill presumably into the canning plant. The larger peas were stopped short by...

Re: Help wanted WW2!

Well I think it's common knowledge that many Members of Congress and other Americans didn't want to be involved in 'Europe's War' from the beginning - 1939 for us, remember? There were many...

Re: Help wanted WW2!

Do a google search - FDR/threat of impeachment - and you'll discover the GOP openly discussed it to punish FDR for talking with Winston Churchill pre-war about Hitler and the setting up of an...

Re: Help wanted WW2!

Rob, tell them U-Boats were circling 10 miles off Manhattan before the US even came into the war. Imagine if the UK had capitulated as easily as the French that might have left Hitler with much more...

Re: US House Prices

It may be "Buyer's Market" in that there are less buyers than sellers, but that doesn't equate to it being the "good time to buy" that realtors love to claim. In fact, with prices relative to income...
