Re: Cost of Bachelors Degree, US vs UK

Is it still true that if you get a degree (ie BA or BSc) from OxBridge, for fifty quid (and no additional work) you can have it upgraded to a Masters?

I know someone who did that in the 1980s,...

I missed it, and I can't watch the video because MSN stuff doesn't work on my Mac.

Re: Drivers who annoy me!

No, but it's a long story. It started with a single black BMW that killed someone's pet outside my house, by driving at 60mph in a 30mph zone. That wasn't very nice either  I cried for...

Re: Drivers who annoy me!

In France, you have to give way to drivers coming out of side streets.

It only applies in built up areas, but that's the only place you'd need it in the US anyway.

I let everyone out, apart...

Re: TV tonight PICK ..TUESDAY

My two biggest complaints are region-only DVDs, and US-first cinema releases.

Is there any (good) reason why a DVD bought in New York by a Brit on holiday doesn't work on their machine when they...

Re: Detol hot sause

If I were stocking shelves, I'd probably put Dettol next to root beer.

I bet Dettol tastes better.

Re: TV tonight PICK ..monday

A friend of mine in England is married to a policeman. Every time they go on holiday to the Far East (ie at least once a year) they bring back a couple of suitcases full of the dodgiest DVDs. I...

Re: Keeping up the stereotype

I used to read a message board that was mostly for American women. One of them said she was once in a nightclub where this guy had teeth you could see from across the dance floor, they were violet...

Re: TV tonight PICK ..monday

Waiting for new series of House, and Bones. They show too many "encore pree-sentations" here.

That thing with the hostage negotiators, which they're advertising endlessly, looks like the biggest...

Re: Hows your accent?

I think they accept that Australia and South Africa are different countries and have different accents, but there's a sort of deep down feeling among some of 'em here that America invented the...

Re: Hows your accent?

Sci Fi fan Cinnabar? Did you enjoy "200"?[/QUOTE]

Magic

I squealed when they said those koala bear Ewok things were the Furlings.

I won't let my OH delete it from our DVR so I can...

Re: Keeping up the stereotype

I had a root canal done back in England years ago; it's never caused me any bother, but my US dentist is obsessed with it. He's forever x-raying it, convinced it's going to explode or something. ...

Re: Not going home for Christmas (probably)

I'm probably the only one on here who feels like this, but what the heck. There's always one awkward one :o

I hate going back (I don't call it going home, it isn't my home any more, I live...

Re: the health system or lack of it is driving me crazy!

I hate the way some of them don't cover contraceptives. Our insurance is fine about it, but I know couples who have company policies where contraceptives aren't covered, but Viagra etc is.

Re: O/T The NIGHTMARE situation

They were all set to deport that British woman whose husband died in the WTC, despite the fact she was the mother of two children who were born here. Technically, she was still on an H4 and without...

Re: No taxation without representation

In England, I always lived in a constituency that was a million miles from marginal. My vote there would be worthless if I bothered registering for overseas voting.

In the US, my county is a...

Re: "ello there... Devonshire Dumplin here!

The British Pantry in Redmond sells them, but they're an extortionate nearly $2 each.

I also love the Kroger Not-Terry's Chocolate Not-Orange, in lime flavour. They come in tap-and-unwrap slicey...

Re: Oh great!!!

There's some sort of sliding scale? I thought it was all or nothing?

Before you have 100 posts, it's nothing. After that, it's all (and you can give "all" five time a day).

No one sent me...

Re: Oh great!!!

It most certainly was not.

I posted my intro in the normal main USA thingy. I don't care where people do it, or whether they do it. I'm not like those East Anglian police nazis who arrested my...
