Re: to stay in the US or not to stay....

Well, I suppose I meant it somewhat lightheartedly really. Brits do a lot of moaning, particularly about the weather, so friends back home (whilst they want me back) think I'd be daft to leave...

Re: How/Why did everyone move here?

Worked for a co. in London that had a California office. They needed help for 6 months so I jumped. Did the 6 months on an L1 visa, then California asked me to stay. I'd just split with a long term...

Re: to stay in the US or not to stay....

Hey sunnyla, I was in London for 10 years before coming here. I can't answer all of your questions I'm afraid. But I do have experience of the corporate culture in Silicon valley, and I can say with...

Re: where to live in London

Tootings OK too, but better further north closer to Balham. i.e Tooting Bec as opposed to Tooting broadway.

Re: Diddling with my new pc video thingy!

Not much of a Devonshire accent! You're meant to say 'laaaaaast' not 'larst' :)

Re: Hows your accent?

Here's an online interview I did last year as a promo for my last company. My awkward American twanged cockney accent makes me cringe (and not to mention causes me much grief from friends and family...

Re: where to live in London

I lived in London for half my life before the US, so I know it pretty well.
Where you want to be somewhat depends on what you want out of the city. You mention a want to be somewhere fairly central,...

Re: "ello there... Devonshire Dumplin here!

Hi, I'm from the Torquay area too. Well, Teignmouth to be more precise, but Torquay was definitely my stomping grounds growing up. When I say stomping I of course mean drinking 10 pints of Stella and...

Re: Returning from New Zealand

I fully understand how the system works. I've lived in the US for seven years, and I'll still take the NHS option please. Healthcare in the UK, whilst not without its problems and waiting lists,...

Re: Returning from New Zealand

Long working hours? Try living in the US where the norm is 2 weeks vacation a year. Try paying for healthcare instead of moaning that it falls short when it's free. Blair? Christ try Bush on for...

Re: what are you looking forward to most about moving back home?

Well, a lot of the content in your posts certainly seemed like you wanted to get into a deep debate. I suppose the line "When was the last time I walked along a street in England and exclaimed, "Look...

Johnysweb: with the greatest respect in the world, I'm failing to understand why you're pouring out reams of prose in defence of place B, in a thread created for the purpose of discussing what people...

Re: what are you looking forward to most about moving back home?

I've started at the startup yeah, I'm just really not sure that it's what I want. Missing the UK and family a lot I guess.

Re: what are you looking forward to most about moving back home?

Not for now at least :( It all fell through due to a headcount cockup their end.
I had to start a new job here 'cos of expiring visas, so I'll see how long that lasts!

Re: what are you looking forward to most about moving back home?

I'm *really* looking forward to spending weekends visiting various family up and down the country. Here, I don't know anyone beyond the city limits.

The 4 weeks holiday a year issue is a huge,...

Re: Work Hours

Is that true for all of the fx houses/animation studios in Cali though angelman? I'm sure some aren't unionised, and some are total sweatshops.

Anyway, I couldn't agree with you more on the...

Re: Work Hours

Well, I've been in the industry a long time so of course I fully understand that the hours are to some extent, the nature of the beast. However, I still insist that its worse in the bay area.

Re: Work Hours

Well, it actually totally depends on your role within the team really. Senior artists and software engineers can make well it into 6 figures, but the average going rate is probably more like 75k. Of...

Re: Work Hours

I swear the industry in which I work (videogames) has to be about the worst going as far as expected hours are concerned. *Officially* it's 9-6, but for whatever weird reason, people seem to think...

Re: How much time is allowed to leave the US?!

Hey Boiler, thanks for the info. So I didn't mention a time period, but I guess I mean like 2 or 3 weeks. I'm not talking months here. So I'd need a new visa just to stay in the country for another...

Re: Where in the US would you like to visit?

Well, I guess from a tourist perspective it does seem beautiful. But like most modern cities, it's one of extreme contrast. Try wandering around market street or most places south of market street...

How much time is allowed to leave the US?!

Bear with me, this is slightly complex!

I have an 0-1 visa for employment with company A. I have given notice to company A, since I am soon to join company B. My petition for the new O-1 visa...
