Also we were told by CIC that even though our SINs had an expiry date, we could carry on working for up to 8 weeks on the expired SIN. This gives you time to get your new work permit and new SIN.

To save you the journey why not send by courier and put in a pre-paid return courier envelope. They can then send it back to you and you can track it on-line, probably work out cheaper too.
