On my Permanent resident card it says that I have been a resident since Sept 2008. It look likes I am eligible to go for citizenship in Sept 2011 (3 year marriage rule) if I am reading it...

Do they check for your AP before you leave the States? I would have thought it would just be for when you return at immigration.
