Thank you both for your help. We're looking at opening an online bank account as well as keeping one account here for our pensions and super to be deposited into. We'll definitely look into Chase and...

"To-do" list for moving to the UK?

After 20 years in Australia (from Canada) for me and 40 years (from the NE of England) for OH, we've decided to retire in Scotland. We're pretty okay with the visa process, although I do wish it was...

Re: I’m in the Midlands - get me outta here!

Once you're sponsored by the State, you'll have to qualify and apply for a visa. Bear in mind that if it's just you and your child you'll need either a court order or a signed statutory declaration...

Re: Canadian slang

What's wrong with eavestrough? The word is pretty explanatory for what it is. It's a trough on the eaves.

Two-four is simply a case of 24 beers rather than the small 12 pack. Pretty inoffensive...

Re: Car hire for 78 year old

Have you looked at the car rental websites to see what's available for your preferred dates? I'm not sure what your age would have to do with renting a vehicle, though unless you're under 21.

Re: Australia's earliest settlers

It's not "woke", Gordon, and nor have I been "chastising" you. I have simply pointed out that the terminology you use is not the accepted contemporary word. Being of a certain age is not an excuse...

Re: Australia's earliest settlers

Gordon, if you truly "mean well", then you will stop using derogatory language to describe the Indigenous peoples of Australia (and other countries). I have corrected you in other threads that the...

Re: Decent curry in GTA

What do you mean by "decent"? Are you looking for an Indian/Pakistani curry or a British curry?

Re: Shrimps On The Barbie

I would think "berk" came from Cockney rhyming slang. Berkley Hunt, (use your imagination) got shortened to Berkley then just berk.

I love swear words. I bought some custom fabric with...

Re: Freezing Joint Bank Accounts on death of husband

Not jiust in Malaysia; it's the same in many countries. Hence the reason that both my husband and I have our own bank accounts in addition to a joint account. If anything happens to him or me, the...

Re: Shrimps On The Barbie

Not all people use their "real" name on social media. I know I don't. I rarely post anything on social media, and when I do it's generally in a few closed groups I belong to - one or two pottery...

Re: Shrimps On The Barbie

Personally, having never liked seafood, shrimp (as in shellfish) are just 🤮

Re: Should I sell my home before or after moving to Australia?

If you're coming on a temporary visa, then IMO don't sell your home. Temporary means just that - the visa will have an end date and unless you can find a way to stay, you're going back.

It's...

Re: Adult with child aus passport in UK wanting to travel to Aus

If he has Australian citizenship he is required to enter Australia with his Australian passporp. As a citizen he cannot hold a visa, so can't use another passport for entry to Australia.
