As iaink says, if your new employer is ok with you going back then why not?
If you can get most of your loose ends tied up before you go then hopefully you wouldn't need to go back for too long -...

To the best of my knowledge, work permits are valid for as long as the person on the immigration desk decides.

No.....Muffins are made of bread dough and so don't have all the little holes in that crumpets do. The butter just sits on the top instead of soaking in and dripping through the holes...mmmmm...
