We've sold our house !!
#1
After 6 months of the house being on the market, being messed about, feeling stressed and asking ourselves daily what in gods name are we doing, we showed a lady round our home yesterday who 'genuinely' loved it.
She offered the (albeit reduced) asking price immediately and has the money available to complete within a month
(mixed emotions or what)Thank god I had our solicitor apply for the deeds to the house a couple of weeks ago which should speed things up a little bit from our end.
Maybe we will make it to Kelowna in time for Alans birthday on 7th Nov. but if not we WILL be there for christmas.
To all those trying to sell, my heart goes out to you but keep as positive as you can. I was beginning to think we would never sell ours but we have, and the best bit is that we did it privately so we can now tell our useless estate agent the good news (can't wait for that) and we've saved over 3,000 quid which will pay for our flights.
And although it's early in the process I feel plenty many
coming on this weekend.Babs

congrats and good luck in the other side of the ocean, but I agree estate agents are absolutely useless, btw did you use any place to advertise the house?

Congratulations, I hope all goes well. We are off to Calgary next week for a flying visit to look at property as we have provisionally accepted a much reduced price on our property also.

Hope it all goes smoothly for you!! I'm tearing my hair out with our house sale. We had an offer 2 months ago, straightforward sale or so we thought, as our buyers had a cash buyer for their property. Our solicitor quoted 4-6 weeks for the sale to complete, we told the buyers we wanted to complete by the end of next week, heard today that they have not yet exchanged and want to delay another week! The problem is with their house sale not ours - but what I can't understand is why their solicitor didn't sort the problem out before - useless!!! How can this system be allowed to continue?????? Arghhhhhhh!!!!!
Sorry for putting a downer on your thread but the stress is really getting to me! Think I need a

We advertised on houseladder first and although we had over 500 hits only got 3 leads - one of which did make an offer but wasn't in a position to complete the sale. Then we advertised everywhere that was free including homesell.co.uk, cutthemiddleman.co.uk and others including BE classifieds.
Our eventual buyer came through homesell.
BTW, Where in Yorkshire are you? We are in Hornsea on the coast
Thanks to everyone else for your good wishes and to Silver Birch, no worries about putting a downer on the thread - s**t happens to us all especially when selling houses and partly why I put the post up originally was to try and encourage people to hang on in there.
I really hope you manage to get your buyers to fall into line soon but in the meantime keep your chin up and have a few

We're 5 weeks into our 2nd house sale (first fell through) and at the beginning of the week we were thinking of putting the house back on the market as the buyers hadn't even had their survey done. However, we kicked our estate agents and everything has been turned around! The surveyor came today, so did the contract, so looks like it will be plain sailing from here, or so we hope! We've actually booked the flights now and leave on 29th October. I know we should have waited until exchange but don't want to lose the premium class seats and it is the last flight with Canadian Affair. They don't fly from Manchester in November.
Anyway hope your sale goes smoothly, sending you some karma

In the same position our house was on market for 3 months, got offer but refused it. Luckily she then went on to buy another property and pulled out due to finances, so we thought we had lucky escape. 3 months later, another offer, 5 weeks into it there buyers buyer pulled out. so we are still waiting for them to be in position to continue or to get another buyer ourselves and its now 10months since it went on the market. We did have a lovely couple come round 2 weeks before we left and they said they wanted it straight away but they dont have a buyer for theres either! so we have 2 buyers interested but they cant proceed. erggggg.
Our other property is going through though...hopefully. Not heard anything bad yet :scared: But we got fed up with waiting and left UK before it completed.
good luck everyone.

Interesting that you left before completion, because we have decided to do the same. Did you sign everything like contracts etc before you left? Or do the documents need to be sent over by a courier?
I'm hoping our sale will have exchanged by the time we leave, but you know how things go!!

Good News! We'll all gather up some "Latitude 50", or a few other Okanagan wines, for when you arrive.
Cheers & smooth journey over!

Fingers crossed for you selling yours this time. Like you and Mel, we also had a sale fall through and we're just hoping now that our celebrations aren't premature but we could do with a few drinks anyway.
We look forward to meeting lots of people we've met on here - (thanks Oggy for the invite) - hopefully V, you will be there next year to do the same.
Mel, good luck to you also. Hope you manage to complete soon and thanks for the karma.
Again, best of luck to everyone and thanks for all your good wishes
