6 weeks without our worldly possesions and living out of a siutcase, a NIGHTMARE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its now MAGIC

For all those out there waiting or about to embark on this never ending waiting game

You had better be prepared as I think this was the hardest part, waiting and waiting and more waiting and waiting to see if your container clears customs.

Ours was the way it left the UK, not a thing had moved !!!!

Hey eddie - sounds like you're settling in quite nicely - thank you very much!

Make sure you go out and buy a snowblower or shovel for the snow!
Good to hear. Take care and keep in touch!

That's good news! Hope you are settling in OK? We are planning to ship our stuff when/if our house sale goes through in the next couple of weeks, so we'll be without it from this end, but hopefully it will be there when we arrive in December. Not looking forward to weeks of living out of suitcases either but it has to be done....

All the best

A question for the canadians and expats on here....the lights you see outside houses and all that, am told that the LED ones are good, as they save energy? I know we have replaced all the incandescent bulbs with CFLs, and the thermostat with a programmable one.

Which lights do you haang up and do you leave them on all night?

Ours are on a timer, or just manually on in the evening for a few hours.

We have "regular" lights. If we were buying now getting the LED lights would be a "no brainer"

PS. Congratulations Eddie...Its all starting to come together eh!

Ahem, need to change your signature now you're on this side of the pond!
Great feeling getting your stuff! I had to wait almost 3 months - my stuff arrived on Hogmanay last year and it was brilliant, so I know how you're feeling - enjoy!!

Our practice is to buy a big tree and stick it in the front yard. It is then festooned with lights and general Xmas bling.

We buy whichever lights are the cheapest because my preferred method of removing them involves wire cutters.

The lights are simply plugged into an external outlet and unplugged when we go to bed, if we remember/can be arsed.

We have had the same lights for the last 6 years now. Just as well as there is a couple of hundred bucks "invested", and that was when they were bought in the post Xmas sales at about 75% off.

If I was a newcomer, I'd skip doing lights the first year, and buy them after Xmas when they are giving them away.

You sound like us. Most of our garden furniture has been bought in the Fall.

You could leave them on all night if you are happy with that. When you get your January electricity bill you will understand why most people turn them off at night.
