Re: Ending National Insurance would end buy in to the state pension

Seems like they are trading one tax for another, just the usual games. The UK has massive fiscal issues so of course the chancellor is cutting taxes.
With any luck if that ever happens, it's a few...

Re: L1A to H1B

Is your intent to move back or stay permanently? If the latter, get them to get started on a Green card. Have you looked into the requirements of an EB-1C? I believe although the company has to...

Re: Canadian slang

Two Four..... and EAVESTROUGH..... ugh.

And Housecoat -- to refer a to a dressing gown. An actual housecoat is an actual thing though, i guess.

Re: ESTA cancelled

I believe the US has access to passenger manifests for flights over its territories. The vast majority of Canadian flights to Cuba pass over the US, so there's another source. Of course, Canadians...

Re: Visa Help & advise Please

There's no simple retirement immigrant visa for the US, there is an investment visa called the EB-5. It requires a minimum investment of $1.8 million and gets you a green card.
Other options are...

Re: Israel Palestinian

Agreed, I think some are way overthinking Israel's current motives, as much as Hamas' strategy. They (Israel) are plain pissed and are reacting like EVERYONE expected them to. Hamas are doing what...

Re: Barclays closing expat bank accounts

No. I actually went in and closed some old savings accounts in person last year, and they said nothing to me. In my head, I was doing them a favour as I am trying to keep just the one account active...

Re: Barclays closing expat bank accounts

I've had my Barclays account while being abroad for 22 years now. I use it infrequently and always manage to use it a bit when visiting the UK. I probably transfer money to it 3-5 times a year. ...

Re: DHS Snooping On Facebook

They [DHS] should be thanking us.... routinely the regulars in here remind people of actual US immigration law and the consequences of breaking it

Re: Does the ESTA payment require a credit card verification

Old school travel agent in the UK might be able to help you with all of this. Of course, might mean booking holiday there too.

Re: Drought in the West/ Pulaski Road Trip

We have had an exceptional amount of rain (even by long term averages) here in front-range Colorado this year. As you say, mostly of the torrid afternoon downpour type. The mornings here are almost...

Re: Moving to the Bay area - need help with public school minefield!

SF is insanely expensive in every facet. First thing I would do is evaluate whether the move is really worth it. Having no relo compensation is going to set you back from Day 1.

Re: Greencard & international travel

Can't help but think that your actual GC will arrive long before your EAD/AP gets to you. I presume your immigration class is still current.

Re: Lost my job While on TN Visa- 60 days Grace Period?

No, you need to get a new TN, the TN is tied to the job... you can either flagpole which is cheaper with USCIS, or have the new employer submit an I-129 which costs more but no travel for you.

Re: Do you carry your Green Card with you at all times in US?

I think if you live in the 100 mile 'border zone' it's a better idea to carry it on longer road trips within the border zone, otherwise mostly unnecessary.

Re: Lost my job While on TN Visa- 60 days Grace Period?

Used to be that you had your TN status until the day you quit or lost your job, and in that moment you were immediately out of status (i.e. illegally in the US). Which was obviously stupid, hence...

Re: Walkabout

Where do you intend to receive any mail while travelling? I'd get a PO Box for that, and point USCIS to that too (if allowed).

Re: So confused... FBAR, 8938, SIPP

IMO the IRS are fed up with dealing with things they see internally as trivial (but way too common), but the US tax law forces them to deal with it. Revenue Procedure 2014-55 (Canadian RRSP...

Re: New State Pension, Martin Lewis, confused.

What is he saying?
You generally need 35 years of full contributions if you're on the New State Pension (if you want a full pension at retirement), this has been a fact for years I believe.
If you...
