Re: British food

Well, Walmart have this (https://www.walmart.com/ip/The-Bakery-at-Walmart-English-Toasting-Sandwich-Bread-24-oz/52145686) which is like an unhealthy white British loaf (i.e. no sugary taste, but kind...

Re: Tell me about OBX...

Also would have to agree with the American. Spent numerous summers north of Duck on family vacation - generally anywhere Kitty Hawk north is very commercialized and busy. Although the sandy beaches...

Have been in NC for over 3 years, after 17 years mainly in Connecticut. Love the Triangle and Asheville, and the natural areas. As always, make the most of where you live! There's so much to see and...

Re: Super Cheap Flight ($99) to the UK!

From this (https://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/flights/todayinthesky/2017/05/31/norwegian-air-fly-italy-three-us-cities/102338008/) article, seems like they're starting off with 737-800s (blocking...

re: Class 2 NI. What about us poor expats paying voluntary contributions?

My path to online access was through getting a written statement, and calling into the HMRC office.

The on-line statement does not give any option to submit payment - for that I use old school...

re: Class 2 NI. What about us poor expats paying voluntary contributions?

Just took a look at my on-line statement and don't see ability to pay back prior to 6 years, but do see that my arrears are now the Class 3 rate. I had been gradually paying off my arrears, but (last...

Re: General Feedback...UK University for USC child

Much appreciate all the input. Since she's just ending freshman year at high school, there's a while to go, and (of course) things may change. But I'm very interested to have the input, and...

General Feedback...UK University for USC child

My older daughter is very interested in going to university in the UK as an undergraduate. She's spent her entire time in the US public education system

So...I'd appreciate any feedback on...

Re: British TV streaming in the US

Will be interesting to see what content it has, but sounds a bit AcornTV-ish. Doesn't mention Channel 4 or Channel 5, so already a gap.

The great thing about using the UK on-demand services...

iPlayer Stats

Interesting this (http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-33620341) pops up after recent debate in the UK about requiring a subscription for the iPlayer.

Wonder what will eventually entail for...

Re: Anyone in the Raleigh area?

Moved to just outside Chapel Hill last year (was previously in CT).

Love it as a place to live - it's a college town with the benefits and negatives of that. Like to visit Durham, and I work in...

Re: Good city for a digital biz in USA, similar to Bristol or Brighton

Recommend considering NC Triangle.

Having lived in Bristol and Brighton, imho Chapel Hill/Carrboro has similar feel to Brighton, Durham to Bristol...well, perhaps that's stretching it :)

Tech...

Re: Airline Fuel Surcharge

Ah ! I hadn't noticed that. It's at least more realistic description.

Am assuming the reason to parse out the "carrier surcharge" from the core fare is to prevent more widespread use of...

Re: £8.20 UK to US airfares planned

Isn't it more about $300 in taxes (which is painful, but could be argued to be a progressive tax), and $500+ in "fuel surcharges".

It does feel like time that someone came into the transatlantic...
