If you've got the same list as me from Joao then it will say 6-12 months travel insurance. Many policies will be accepted for this including annual multi-trip policies and it doesn't seem to matter...

You could send him on a real journey - drive the UK car back to the UK to sell then hop over to Germany (cheaper depending on what you buy) to collect the LHD car you bought there and drive it back...
