Converting UK driving licence but as E.U. resident?

Hello again
I hoped someone could offer input on the following, rather contorted situation:
I have UK and, since 2023, Italian citizenship .
I previously obtained PT residency as British citizen, just before the Brexit cut off date, in 2020/21, then cancelled it when I returned to Italy.
I am wondering about the possibilities for moving to Portugal (again!) and taking residency under the Italian passport, and then converting my UK driving licence to a Portuguese one?
I should add that I did try to convert my UK licence to Portuguese when I was resident there in 2021. After submitting it, I changed my mind and requested the IMT cancel and return my licence but this didn't happen on their part, so I reported it lost to the UK licencing authority and they issued a replacement.

Your nationality isn't of any relevance as far as driving licence issues are concerned.
If you have a UK licence, there's a procedure to follow which may allow you to drive on the existing licence until expiry. It'll depend on the categories and your age.

I had my driving licence job done through a driving school; I paid some money, but it was very much worth it.
They do the job with ease, gather up the necessary paperwork, go the IMT as many times as it takes, and know the rules better than the IMT clerks (who gave my incorrect information).
Just the fuel I saved not driving back and forth 100km to the IMT made it worth the money.

There is lots of incorrect and confusing info out there including on official sites. The following link is to the actual law, helpfully written in both Portuguese and English, that is specific to UK driving licences.

as far as I am aware (and always happy to be corrected) you can register your current UK license with the IMT and use it until it would naturally expire, I started this process minus a few classes on my 'grandads rights' that here required a physcological medical, rather than just a physical medical, which was a comlete farce done online for 30euro and took 2 minutes then the certificate gets emailed to you, filled the form in online and registered my UK license with the IMT..........total cost was the medical............. or............
visit your local driving school with all of your docs, TR card, passport, current driving license and pay them to do the legwork for you, as liveaboard said ............ the driving school do all the work you just pay for the convenience, I was quoted 140euro from memory, and was told 90 was for the IMT the rest was for the driving school, I have no idea if that was a fair quote as I have nothing to compare it with, and didnt go down that route anyway...............
trust me though dealing with the IMT to register your current card is hassle ............ just as you would expect it to be.....long story is that

I'll just preface by saying that I'm sure that you try to be helpful in your responses as, I believe, most other folks do.
The one that you linked for one as well as the info on IMT that still lumps the UK in with OCDE and CPLP countries. Those licence holders have a 60 year old age limit but for the UK there is a specific bi-lateral agreement and the UK licence remains valid up to it's expiry date regardless of age.
UK licence holders have never been subject to a 60 year old age limit as pre-brexit they followed the EU licence rules, then a law covering a transition period came into effect finally followed by the current law.

I did it once in Lagos and once in Sao Teotonio.
The Aljezur driving school did not speak English and didn't want my business. That was a few years ago so things might have changed.
The Sao Teotonio guy takes it to Beja, where things are faster.
He helped me with some registration problems I had with my car too.

I used to use my old pink paper licence for company car trips. I got stopped once in a random traffic cop street check. They unfolded it and looked bewildered and just told me to carry on. Then I converted it to a plastic credit card type, with which I've rented cars there.
