Re: BC implementing 5 days paid sick leave in 2022

I am not sure where mirrors fit into this, but under the Employment Standards Act an employer cannot arbitrarily pay out vacation pay. They can insist an employee take all of their vacation within...

Re: BC implementing 5 days paid sick leave in 2022

I guess it depends on the contract. It happened whatever your views, or they were making it all up, which I doubt, knowing the individual. What you are quoting is federal, not municipal.

Re: BC implementing 5 days paid sick leave in 2022

There is. if a worker had symptoms, were required to self isolate, or got sick and they filed a claim, they got paid. If they did not meet these criteria and/or did not file a claim, they would not...

Re: BC Gas Price

May not change much in the Lower Mainland of BC right now, gas stations are prohibited from 'gouging' during the state of emergency, I have not seen prices this stable in 20 years. No doubt they...

Re: BC implementing 5 days paid sick leave in 2022

I knew an govt employee in Canada, when he came up to retirement, he worked one week in January then retired, so he got paid his 8 weeks vacation for that year and all of his 'banked' sick time.

Re: BC implementing 5 days paid sick leave in 2022

There were plenty of incentives for people with Covid symptoms to stay home and get paid. EI changed the rules so there was no waiting period, workers could get paid for days off due to Covid,...

Re: Job OFFER subject to reference - URGENT visa Helpp -

I would be talking to an accountant, not an immigration consultant on taxation. Expenses to bring in an employee are a deductible expense for the employer, so long as they don't try and recover it....

Re: From fires to floods

It was beside it, not on it. The levee is not happening now. The Sumas River dyke is being repaired instead.

Re: From fires to floods

Until recently one could not buy overland flood insurance in Canada at all. It is now available in some areas, depends on your post codes. In a flood plain, no chance. We can get earthquake cover...

Maybe time for a little self reflection there?

Re: National Insurance Contributions - Foreign Tax Credits

A $2000 laptop would be capitalised. If it is a Class 50 (55% CCA rate), you could take $1100 off reportable income in year 1 and the remaining 45% in year 2. e.g. if income in year 1 was $30,000 -...
