Leaving

I am planning on leaving Abu Dhabi after completing my present contract in the UAE. Has anyone got any advice or tips on the shipping, closing bank accounts, closing off employment contracts / visa's...

The same is happening in most of the Gulf - offially the inflation was 10.8% this year! Unofficially rents are rising by about 20%!

Depends really! AD & Dubai are chalk & cheese. Very different places - Dubai far more westernised. AD very Arabic.

AD generally cheaper but that is changing rapidly as they are now throwing money...

I spent 8 months up there last year - got to say I never really got into the place. Maybe that was because we were based out in the sticks.

I am now down in Abu Dhabi - same bull**** but i do find...

Based on what Tortuge posted would that be:-

32k Salary + 2 - 2.5k Car Allowance + 6-8k accomodation = 40 - 42.5k?

Is that beyond the norm there now - boom and all?

You can pick up a region free dvd player that plays all formats and copies for about 20 - 30 quids in most major supermarkets in the U.K

Most new (even very cheap) DVD players in the U.K are now multi region so you would not have a problem.

Why don't you negoiate prior to coming. 30k with a wife and two kids is tight. Demand is far out stripping supply here esecially in construction. Sure you could get a better deal.

I know positions in South East Asia are not a plenty, but does anyone have any contact's for such. Recruitment Consultants, Clients or Professional Practises would be preferable.
