Re: Renting: all the money up front?

Thank you Leper, I did indeed do that. I can't blame the agent too much as it was the apartment owner who suddenly made the demand, but yes, he probably thought I was desperate seeing as it was to...

Re: Renting: all the money up front?

I did! Found another one today with monthly upfront payments - much better.

But the other one was the first time I had come across 'all the money up front', which might make a greedy landlord a...

Renting: all the money up front?

I've been arranging a 4 month rental here in Andalucia, and having viewed the property and decided to go with it, the owner has asked for the entire 4 month's rental up front. As far as I'm concerned...

Re: Applying for residency

Yes, the trouble is for those of us wanting to winter over here for health reasons - 100 days in Spain isn't enough!

I'm not sure about your calculations though - 100 days in Spain followed by...

Re: Applying for residency

Fred, I didn't quite understand the bit about registering as a foreign resident means that "All it does is give you the right to stay for more than 90 days. You retain that right unless you spend...

Re: Applying for residency

I hope he says yes because I have just arranged a week in Portugal to reset the 90 days that I don't really want as it is money I really don't want to spend!

Re: Applying for residency

Fred, you say that the 90 day rule 'registering as a foreigner' process is not the same as the tax residency process but I have read in many places that once you have registered, which is effectively...

Re: Temporary Residency Permit

The answers on this thread have been really helpful, thanks everyone. It has helped me to decide not to progress with a 'temporary' residency application due to the longer term implications. I will...

Re: Health insurance requirement for residence permit?

Thank you, that seems a good option. Does anyone actually check though? You don't get stamps in your passport so when you go through airports they don't know when you previously came or went. I...

Re: Temporary Residency Permit

Thank you all, I think the penny is beginning to drop and I have been reading all the legal advice sites too literally. They all give the impression you can choose between applying for a temporary...

Re: Health insurance requirement for residence permit?

I would much rather just be a UK resident visiting Spain and using EHIC together with medical emergency cover via travel insurance, and had been happy with that to date until I read that stays over...

Re: Health insurance requirement for residence permit?

Hi, yes, as far as I am concerned the EHIC, together with my travel insurance medical emergency cover, should be enough, hence why I was reluctant to shell out for more insurance especially when I'd...

Re: Temporary Residency Permit

I don't know this but I wonder if part of the reason it is sometimes ignored is because people in my situation find out they have to pay so much money for additional health cover because their...

Re: Temporary Residency Permit

It's very possible I am confusing them, yes! The trouble is, I have read so many websites on this and they are often unclear as to who they are talking about. So they bang on about 'UK residents' in...

Re: Health insurance requirement for residence permit?

Bobd22, that makes sense for full residency but I thought the 90 day rule applied to EU citizens as well as non-EU, so you still have to get a residencia permit, and lots of people just winter in...

Re: Health insurance requirement for residence permit?

Snap! I have just asked almost the same question in another thread today. It does seem very bad that no insurer seems to offer health insurance for when the customer wants it eg 3 or 6 months a year,...

Re: Temporary Residency Permit

Thanks bobd22. I understand the tax implications hence always ensure I'm not here more than 182 days in order to remain UK tax resident (for now). I guess Brexit is even now still a bit of an unknown...

Re: Temporary Residency Permit

"Those who are in the country for less than six months will need a temporary resident permit, longer than six months and a full residency permit is needed."

That's for EU nationals. For non-EU...

Temporary Residency Permit

I own an apartment in Andalucia and stay there over the winter, for 6 months each time. I have stopped work and live off savings but have not reached retirement age yet. I think I am right in saying...

Re: Healthcare

I am also under retirement age but have independent means and am looking for a health care policy so I can apply for temporary residency. However, I can't find a policy that does not make you pay for...
