Re: Best pet relocation company - USA to UK

Re: UK > California on an E2 - Experience, living, family etc!

I am from San Francisco and worked in the tech industry amongst other venues. Housing is horrible, but I disagree about cost of food and clothing. I guess it depends on how you shop/where you dine,...

Re: Best pet relocation company - USA to UK

I have read a number of posts on shipping pets and just want to chime in here. I recognize there can be a number of reasons why a person feels the need for a pet shipper. However, I have shipped dogs...

Re: From US back to UK mortgage as non resident

I met with HSBC bank representatives on a recent trip to find out what sort of mortgage products they offered and whether we qualified. If you have a premier account with them and unlimited right to...

Re: i want to return, US hubby doesn't. Crisis point.

I wonder if there is some middle ground. Two things pop out at me.

First of all, it does sound like the two of you have become very polarized. He has his position, you have yours, and it is a form...

Re: Settling a Car Lease

I don't think defaulting on a lease here will affect your credit in the UK. I also think the settlement charge they are now claiming is bogus. Ask them to break it down in writing. I would absolutely...

Re: UK Mortgages

Wow. So even if a person has an income stream, if they are a little frayed at the edges they (generally) cannot get a mortgage?

Re: UK Mortgages

I have bought and sold a lot of houses over the years and have used just about every loan program out there. I just wanted to know, roughly, what the programs there were like and I have a pretty good...

Re: UK Mortgages

I found an article in Wikipedia that explained the differences and a Money.co.uk or similar site gave me an idea of the range of rates. It's a whole world of difference it turns out. Generally LTV is...

Re: UK Mortgages

I am trying to get a picture of how mortgage loans work in the UK in general. I know we will be somewhat constrained due to lack of credit history and HSBC can help, but am trying to suss out what is...

UK Mortgages

Can anyone tell me how UK mortgages are cast? What is a typical current lending rate and period? What do they expect in terms of percentage of down payment? Are the loans amortized over fixed periods...

Spousal Visa--Income or Savings?

We are going to begin work on a spousal visa. As I understand it, the income requirement for retirees is different in that they will look at the couple's collective/joint income versus the sponsor...

Re: Health insurance for ex-pats covering home and abroad

I think this is one of those things where an approach might seem logical on the surface--but until you actually start digging into it, the permutations aren't clear. We did look at various scenarios...

Re: Finding a place to live.

I did not realize they could give us a "credit presence" in a foreign country. That is great! But yes, we are in the process, having opened a Premier account, of opening an international account. I...

Re: Health insurance for ex-pats covering home and abroad

I created the confusion here because initially I was only asking about UK coverage but it has morphed into another issue (for us) and that is how to cover her for the period of time she will likely...

Re: Finding a place to live.

That sounds like a great approach, actually. Thanks for the tips.

We wouldn't buy anything sight unseen. Our thoughts were to fly over for a house hunt and also prevail upon friends to view areas...

Re: Health insurance for ex-pats covering home and abroad

Just an update and hopefully something that might be helpful to others. It is tricky finding international health insurance. Many companies appear to have an abysmal record when it comes to payment....

Re: Finding a place to live.

It's good to know the differences. We have bought property outside of the US, and don't expect it to be the same as in the US.

I also like Guildford. Definitely on the list.

I wonder what...

Re: Finding a place to live.

There should be no issue securing a visa. We would not be considering this otherwise. And if, for some reason we don't go that route, i.e. we decided not to live there year-round, we are interested...
