Sorry can;t resist this. It's two of my favourite Topics: Wellington & Weather!

My credentials:

Re: Start of the process

Agree with this. Someone above mentioned Wellington is not the place to come for scenery. I would massively disagree with this. Wellington is one of the most visually stunning places I've ever...

Re: Looking for an equivalent NZ store to Boots

There's a Body Shop in the Westfield Centre in Riccarton. While not a Boots, it does sell familiar toiletries.

Re: Road death statistics

With the driving I witnessed in Northland last week, nothing surprises me. Several examples of people risking their own lives and those of others to overtake me on blind bends when I'm not going that...

Re: Planning the Big move to NZ

I guess not, sorry BEVS. I remembered how I felt and empathised with Maz, I suppose I just felt you were going too easy on him.

Re: Planning the Big move to NZ

I can't understand why you are making excuses for him. His words are just obnoxious bullying on any level.
This is supposedly a forum for people going through a tough life changing event and not...

Re: Planning the Big move to NZ

Don't worry Maz, I had a similar response from Justcol when I posted something slightly negative about my experience after 6 months being here. Some people just can't help being unpleasant,...

Re: Anyone lived in Paekakariki

:goodpost:

Pretty good summary. The only thing I'd add is that there really is a lot of coastline to explore in Wellington. If you are "into" the sea, you'll love it, maybe not so much beaches...

Re: Rent prices in New Zealand

Hi, sorry that was me that mentioned the fog. It is only a problem if you live up high in Wellington. We were about 180m above sea level and the fog used to move in roughly once a week and leave us...

Re: Moving to New Zealand - Wellington

Fair enough, I was working from memory. Sheffield's never 2m though, probably includes whole of S.Yorks. Manchester's only 2.5m (well it was last time i checked, wikipedia has it as 2.8m...crikey!)

Re: Moving to New Zealand - Wellington

Wellington region population is roughly 400-500k. About the size of Bordeaux, Bristol, Sheffield. Those are decent sized cities (but not huge) with relatively dynamic economies. There seems to be a...

Re: Moving to New Zealand - Wellington

Hi MattKay,

Me and the family made the move to Wellington over a year ago. Opinions vary considerably about places in NZ as everyone has different interests and requirements. However I've traveled...

Just for balance. I have been in NZ for coming up to 12 months. After 3 months I was feeling much as you do and just wanted to go home. There is some truth in the things you say but the culture shock...

Re: Most Peaceful Country

Nice spots and tourist spots are mutually exclusive as far as I can tell. My favourite NZ places are pretty quiet and I don't have to fight my way through traffic to get there. Maybe cos I don't live...

Re: Been here 4 months and strugglinh

We've been here just over 9 months, so not at all long. We are still in the settling-in phase.. Good bits so far have been:
Feeling of freedom and space; clear skies at night; the quiet, we can...

You can do that legally and also use the A&E when visiting the UK under the reciprocal rules.
It's just scheduled hospital appointments that have to be paid for (at 150% - seems a bit excessive),...
