Re: Can an NAATI-certified translator translate docs for their own application?

Thanks Jeremy.

Yes, in fact as I was writing my post yesterday I was struck by how this would make quite a good question for the ethics part of the NAATI exam itself, where conflicts of interest...

Can an NAATI-certified translator translate docs for their own application?

I'm currently waiting for the results of my NAATI test. If I've passed, it will then be time to start getting the mountain of documents ready to apply for Australian PR (our ultimate destination is...

Re: NZ - Family category - retired parent

I agree. You seem to fit the criteria in respect of centre of gravity, so it should be well worth applying.

I think some people are getting confused between your situation (the Family Category)...

Re: NAATI Overseas Testing Question

Thanks for the informative post and for recommending London. I am hoping to take the test when I go to the UK to visit my family in the spring, so I will certainly remember the name of Tom Horrigan....

NAATI Overseas Testing Question

I'm hoping to take the NAATI Translator test (Japanese-English) in 2004.

My question is about the procedure for overseas testing. The tests in Australia happen only once a year, in November, but...

Re: Taking the Naati test

I've taken a quick look at the booklet, but will go through it with a fine-toothed comb to try and spot any banana skins. As far as I can tell, as long as I pass the NAATI test my case should be...

Re: Taking the Naati test

Sound advice. I'll be ordering the NAATI application pack forthwith and hope to get the exam done by next summer. Strangely, Japan (where I live) is not on the otherwise extensive list of countries...

Re: Taking the Naati test

Thanks Peter. As ever, a prompt and spot-on reply. I do worry that with the NAATI test probably being regarded as an "easy" route to 65 points (Skilled Occupation + community language) by some...

Re: Taking the Naati test

No, it was in the post I quoted from George Lombard! I should have made that clearer.

Re: Taking the Naati test

I'm a translator thinking of taking the NAATI test next year in order to apply for the Skilled Independent category (offshore), as well as for the more general benefit of having this professional...

Re: Can I work in NZ with an Australian PR?

Thanks for the clear info Peter! I now see that your previous post was in fact addressed to me, in answer to a similar query I posted in January. Memory must be going...

The point about APRs being...

Re: Can I work in NZ with an Australian PR?

I'm bringing this old thread back up as it addresses some of the points I need to clarify. The new SMC announced by NZIS on Monday has basically left me high and dry, and the information I have so...

Re: NZIS policy changes take effect NOW.

Best advice is don't panic!

Your application will be returned, and you can fill in a new one for the new category next month (using the same medical certs etc., I believe). If not many people...

Re: NZIS policy changes take effect NOW.

Yes, another classic NZIS surprise. How many lawsuits will they get this time I wonder? Not many I suppose, as judging from this board and their recent application numbers there don't seem to be many...

Re: NZ Skilled Migrant category release date

Thanks Jamie! Finally some real news about NZ. The most exciting thing on the NZIS website in the past few months has been the announcement of their new logo - hardly earth-shattering news for...

Re: UK approval rates for NZ LTBV

Is it possible for a one-man business to gain an LTBV? If the new Skilled Migrant thing leave me high and dry, applying for an LTBV for my one-man translation business would be one option. The...

Re: NZ: Small Clues on Future Policy

Thanks Jamie, a very informative post as usual.

Has the new points system been announced yet? In the context of the GS system, one point for a job offer sounds derisory, so presumably the new...

NZ: Small Clues on Future Policy

I haven't been keeping up with the forum recently, ironically because we were in NZ - having a great holiday that has only reinforced our determination to live there one day. Apologies if this info...

NZ New Policy: Right of Appeal Retained?

It looks as though sense has prevailed on one dodgy aspect of the coming Skilled Migrant policy. The govt previously said the right to appeal NZIS decisions would be restricted, but as far as I can...

That's number one on our list of "must eat" places when we're in Nelson next month, so I'd love to see the pics if you can get them up.

Those open home things - is it a matter of just turning up...

It does look like NZIS will have a huge amount of discretion in choosing who gets in and who doesn't, plus there's no right of appeal from what I can tell.

Cheers,

Re: New Zealand New System Information

This is the clearest explanation I've seen yet of the basic framework, but it means little until they tell us how many points you'll get for age, qualifications, experience etc, what the passmark is,...

As a veteran of dozens of Tokyo tremors (all relatively minor, thankfully), I'd have to say that's the best description I've heard! Is Ms Deedee a poet by any chance? I'll remember that and use it...

Re: New Zealand's New Scheme

I'm only vaguely aware of what the new Skilled Migrant thing will be like. Have you found detailed info somewhere?

There's been plenty of talk about retaining a points system, giving bonus points...
