Re: Changes to RRV and Citizenship? When?

Thank you for your reply. This appears to be the rub. When did this change? As I said, at no point during the entire 5-year Temporary Resident/Permanent Resident process was the requirement to reside...

Changes to RRV and Citizenship? When?

My husband is a permanent Australian resident, having obtained residency through me (an Australian citizen) in 2012. We have been together now for 15 years, and went through the whole burden of...

Re: Grew up in Australia, want to return

You need to find out what your current migration status is. You will need to find your old passports with your resident’s visas in them. Assuming you have them, and can thus prove you have permanent...

Re: L1 Visa - Step off the plane, now what?

Actually, I stumbled across this thread when searching the forum for an answer to a question I had. I thought my experience and the suggestion to try Amex may have been useful to the OP. I did not...

Re: L1 Visa - Step off the plane, now what?

You think Capital One are not? Interesting... They are big, certainly, but personally, I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole, due to their reputation. I do understand they fulfil a market need, but...

Valid L1 Visa - Return to the USA as visitor?

I applied for and received an L1 Visa in July 2015. It was issued for 5 years, so is valid until 2020.

My assignment in California was for two years. My employer was keen for me to remain in...

Re: L1 Visa - Step off the plane, now what?

Ref finances: because you do not have a US credit record, getting a credit card will be difficult. We set up a Bank Account pretty easily when we moved over in 2015, which obviously had a Visa debit...

Re: Questions about moving to The Bay Area

Feel free to IM me. We do not have children so cannot answer your specific questions about that, but you are in the same situation were in 6 months ago. I might be able to give you a few insights by...

Re: Car Rental?

I agree - if it is going to take you a few months to arrange the dream MX-5, why not buy a vehicle for a couple of thousand dollars as an interim measure? You ought to be able to sell it or use it as...

Re: Getting Broadband/TV Service without Credit Score

Pretty much the same experience: Comcast basically signed me up for TV and fast broadband and only asked for about a month and half's worth to be billed in advance to my credit card ($160).

This...

Re: Book flights before Visa appointment??

My company paid for our fares, but nevertheless, we have a budget which we have to adhere. We did not want to fly economy. It is possible to get Club fares for similar amounts to full-fare Economy,...

Re: Car Insurance in California

You are quite right - 'broker' was my term, not hers. She herself calls herself an 'agent'.

I had not been able to find a proper broker in the UK sense of the word. Thanks for the link!

Re: Book flights before Visa appointment??

We had our L1/L2 appointment on the Wednesday, 15th July. They told us at the interview that the visas had been approved - and the embassy staff were universally lovely. She told us that would take...

Re: Car Insurance in California

Can I recommend you try a broker? Be aware that brokers seem to work differently in the US than how they do in the UK - they seem to be agents for a single insurance company only, rather than having...

Re: What car should I choose?

Which one? i.e. which year? Ours is a 2015. The plastics are not exactly Audi/BMW-quality, but they are certainly not bad, either. In fact the aluminium trim is better than that in my 63-plate 320d....

Re: Finally All Approved

No, we do not have a Social Security number as yet. We were personally introduced to a local Wells Fargo Private Bank manager, who did it all for us without asking for a SSN. We also setup a USD...

Re: Finally All Approved

We're moving to the Bay Area in California with a two year commitment. We're going as soon as we have our passports back, so at the end of next week, we hope.

In a slightly risky move (linked to...

Re: What car should I choose?

We opted for a Cadillac SRX in California. It's a medium-sized 4WD with a V6 engine - probably slightly larger than the Range Rover Evoque. It is very comfortable and very smooth - it is Cadillac,...

Re: Finally All Approved

What a co-incidence! We also had our L1/L2 interview yesterday at 8:30am. As it did you for you, our day went smoothly. The only annoying thing was that the US Embassy website indicated umbrellas...
