Re: Driving a UK registered car

Wheres the car registered then? They’ll need to send to road tax rebate somewhere (they still used cheques when we sold our UK car, how quaint).

Your experiences with the locals match our...

Re: Driving a UK registered car

So where is your UK car registered? That must be a UK address. We were very circumspect in moving all our details to our Italian address until we were sure that we could get things sorted here. We...

Re: Driving a UK registered car

The Carabinieri computer systems are quite smart now and may well find your residency from your passport. You’re digging quite a big hole then.

Re: Driving a UK registered car

Petr, I think you are focussing on the wrong thing here. Residency is key. The bare facts are that you won’t be able to live and drive your UK car here for the length of your contract without being...

Re: Money transfer UK bank to Italian Bank

Used Smart for the house purchase. They were very good. Part was a future contract from a house sale and when that fell through they were extremely helpful deferring the contract with a very, very...

Re: Driving a UK registered car

Good decision, George!

I was stopped once in the UK car and waved on three times, until the latest lollipping (see previous post).

Enjoying the new car so far. Have only had the right hand...

Re: Driving a UK registered car

Marchegiani are the nicest people in the world, carabinieri included.

Getting LHD was one of the reasons for not importing I didn’t mention....

Re: Driving a UK registered car

A bit of a personal update...

We decided importing wasn’t such a good idea for a number of reasons: cost, process, status of car and value after importing, time taken and so on, so a couple of...

Re: Driving a UK registered car

Apologies, yes, it was unlimited when we had it for the 8 years we spent the summers in Greece but you had to be a UK resident, I think.

Anyway, our AXA insurance was cheaper!

Re: Driving a UK registered car

Sounds like they are targetting Eastern Europeans. We’ve just bought an Italian car, waiting for insurance quotes and transfer of ownership before we can pick it up. What’s the chances that we will...

Re: Driving a UK registered car

We have insurance, underwritten by AXA, which provides for unlimited time cover outside of the UK (unlike Saga where it is limited to 90 days]. We have to have a UK address for this insurance, but...

Re: Driving a UK registered car

Because of the cost, the time and the uncertainty of how to do this, we have decided to buy an Italian registered car.

We also considered:

- even imported, it is still going to be RHD.
-...

Re: Driving a UK registered car

And there’s the rub, isn’t it, finding out exactly what to do and where to do it. I’ve posted here previously trying to get that definitive statement of the process, without success, but it may be...

Re: Driving a UK registered car

My understanding is that the fine can be up to €2,500 depending on the length of residency. We are carrying residency documents separately although my upbringing would make it very difficult for me...

Re: Driving a UK registered car

Thanks for the reply but ‘it may be’ and ‘I suspect’ isn’t really what I was asking.

My reading of the ruling as translated is that it is not the length of time that the car has been in Italy that...

Re: Driving a UK registered car

Given the lack of responses, I guess no-one has experienced a purge on this, lots of road side random checks we
which, previously, being a UK car we used to get waved through.

Anyway, we want to...

Re: Driving a UK registered car

Has anyone got any idea how this will be implemented? We are residents with a UK registered car. We have looked at importing but because of the costs, that it will still be a RHD(!), reported...
