Re: Wellington childcare

Have you tried Porse (http://www.porse.co.nz)? They are like childminders. There are quite a few in our area and they all come highly recommended. Im sure you could find some in Wellington.

Re: Leaving Auckland...

It didn't go well :(. Unfortunately the estate agents lived up to their reputation and spent much of the week playing ridiculous games and straight up lying to us. When it became clear that they were...

I'm happy to share how my kids have adjusted but I'll start a new thread as it's a slightly different topic.

Some of the others have already mentioned the cost of schools and children activities, but I'll give you a breakdown of how much those things are for my kids.We are in Auckland so the figures will be...

Re: 8 months in Auckland...

Well husband really loves it here so he wants to keep the door open just in case I change my mind and decide to stay. Plus we spent so much money coming over here it feels wasteful to not get...

Re: 8 months in Auckland...

I understand completely where you are coming from. I've been in Auckland 16 months and it feels like every day I plaster on the fake smile and the fake happiness and just get on with things. It's so...

Re: Leaving Auckland...

We've been really busy I haven't had much time to even get on the internet.

Snap Shot we loved Wanganui. It had such a great feel to it. Sadly we only spent a couple of hours there, but I've told...

Re: Should we move back?

People aren't necessarily looking for a super group of friends.

Heck I'd be happy if I could have a friendly chat with 1 adult a month that isn't a my husband.

Re: Should we move back?

I've moved half-way around the world a couple of times before, and the one thing I've learned is that you are the person that has to work hard, put yourself out there and be completely shameless when...

I hope I'm not reading this wrong, but are you intending to move with the hope that this time you might not be so lonely because your children will be in school?

I can only let tell you from my...

Re: Moving Costs

We moved Sept 2014 and in total, including insurance and costs in NZ it worked out to just over £8000 for a 40ft container. We also brought our car which made it a little more than if you are only...

Re: Is it really that hard to find a warm home?

I don't mean to be otherwise but our house is on a concrete base and all the living areas and kitchen are north facing, so get sun all day.

The window ledges are also normal UK size ledges.

Yet...

Re: Is it really that hard to find a warm home?

It depends.

How much are you willing to spend? How big a property do you need and in what area?

In the area we live in we pay $580 for a 4 bed house. That's $2514 a month when you average out...

Well we don't have any family in the UK so thats not an issue, and we are here already so we may as well try and have a good go at making it work before we make any decision about returning.

Re: Leaving Auckland...

I've never hear of Paekakariki. I'll have to do some more research.

Invercargill scares me. I don't think I can take the cold. I've had a baptism of fire (or ice) this winter with...

Re: Leaving Auckland...

Nelson is definately on our list. I'm glad to hear Nelson isn't sprawling, that's part of the reason I dislike Auckland. I hate how far away everything is and the terrible traffic congestion.

Leaving Auckland...

We've been in Auckland just over a year and have tried really hard to make it work here. But it's time to throw up out hands in defeat and move on.

However before we head back to the UK we are...

Re: UK to NZ - is it worth it???

Hi, we're in South Auckland. Its scary expensive here but I'm pretty sure the move is permanent. Husband wouldn't leave if you paid him, lol. I've struggled to adjust but I think that's because I...
