Hi all.

Have not posted in a while! Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

With...

Re: Income Earned In UK BEFORE moving to USA - Taxable?

I don't necessarily believe that you are not "allowed" to, It seems more that most tax preperaton services just do not support Dual Status E-File.

Re: Income Earned In UK BEFORE moving to USA - Taxable?

I was advised by Deloitte that you are not allowed to efile as a Dual Status Alien... while some tax preperaton softwares offer the help required to file as Dual Status, I believe you are still...

Re: One way flights for those that have moved recently.

I do regret my descision a little bit, but $500 was a big enough of a saving to do it. If it was around $200/300 I probably wouldn't have booked them. Luckily I can get corporate rates at hotels in...

Re: L-1 Visa application with criminal record

I don't think you should test the waters with a B-2 behind your employers back. As I mentioned before, B-2 are notoriously hard to get approved since an ESTA is normally needed for these people. You...

Re: L-1 Visa application with criminal record

Hmm, I would just stick at the L1 visa application and see what happens. While I'm not sure if denial for a tourist visa means automatic denial for a L1 visa, I do know that you would have the...

Re: L1-A Change to L1-B

I am taking a wild guess at this but I think the clock might reset.

From what I can see online, people who do a change of status from L1A to H1B get the full number of years on the new H1B since...

Re: Applying for a work visa

I think you should be slightly concerned  I wanted (and actually ended up NEEDING to know) nearly every detail of my visa process that my company were preparing (I was on L1A since I satisfied...

Re: L-1 Visa application with criminal record

Under UK Data Protection Act, you have the right to ask your local police for a copy of the records they hold about you. AKA a "Subject Access Request".

Might be worth just seeing if they even...

Re: Temporary auto insurance when visiting UK

I was just about to mention Amex insurance on rentals, then I saw your posts. I'm also with you on this and agree it's worth the extra $30. Coverage is great!

Re: SSN not recognized + US credit score

I must be one of the luck ones then. I've been here since March. Transferred my UK Amex card to US and was approved instantly. Applied for car lease and was approved direct with the dealership. 1...

Re: One way flights for those that have moved recently.

You might want to look at flying into Canada and then Canada to the US on 2 separate tickets. I've just booked direct return flights home to LHR from YVR with Air Canada for $650 in May. Other...

I used travelex international payments 3 times when I moved out here to...

Re: Income Earned In UK BEFORE moving to USA - Taxable?

There is just one thing I'm still stuck on. What is my official date for becoming a resident alien? My scenario,

Arrival into US on L1A on March 5th 2014. 183 days for the substantial presence...

You were a nonresident alien at...

Re: Income Earned In UK BEFORE moving to USA - Taxable?

Because I am classed as Resident Alien on the last day of the tax year, I have to file Form 1040 and write DUAL-STATUS RETURN on...
