One way flights for those that have moved recently.

One way flights for those that have moved recently.
Hello all, I'm starting to look at one way flights or return flights but being naughty and throwing away the return ticket.
I'm just wondering what people have paid in the last few years so I kind of know what prices to buy my ticket/s at. Last month when I went to Phoenix I paid £630 for a return 1 stop flight and if I had waited I could have got a return direct flight with BA for £520!
I'm going to Phoenix but have found a one way direct ticket to LAX for £274 so I'm not sure whether to go for that then get a train or pay someone to pick me up as £274 seems pretty cheap. A one way direct flight to Phoenix so far is £461.
So yeah basically what did you all end up paying roughly? It doesn't need to be to Phoenix or LA I'm just interested in what, if any, good deals people got. Do I buy now incase they get more expensive or wait incase they get cheaper?
Thanks!
Oh and I'm going roughly on October 1st give or take a few days.

£650 for return to DFW, obviously didn't use the return portion.

When I looked at a one way to SFO when I came out, the prices were ridiculous. Over a grand! So I bought a return.

You can probably get LAX to PHX one way for $73 on Southwest Airlines on their "Wanna Get Away" booking (might be double that on certain days). Southwest Airline is not on the travel sites.

There is no train from LAX to PHX. My advice is to get the least expensive ticket to LAX, and then a 1-way ticket on Southwest from LAX to PHX.
I also advise not buying any tickets until you have the visa in hand.

Cheers everyone, it looks like the best and cheapest way to do it is the flight to LAX and then sorting a seperate flight to PHX or getting picked up from LAX. The flight to LAX is with Norwegian Airlines I've never even heard of them before! I think I'll book it tomorrow then seems I don't think I'll get any other flight package anywhere near that price. Which is what I suspected but just wanted to know if anyone found any great deals with any other airline.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Amtrak 3 days a week to Maricopa IIRC then Ambus to Phoenix. Hell of a faff and probably wouldn't save anything with the train fare , meals, etc.

Wait, today is December 20, 2014. You say you're traveling around October 1 (2015?). That's almost a year away. You say you have the option of getting a round trip ticket and not using the return portion, so does that mean you're getting an Immigrant visa? I know you can't have the visa in hand yet, if you're not planning to travel for almost a year.
If the scenario above is correct, and you buy s ticket now, you might end up paying change fees next year if you don't have your visa by the date you're supposed to travel.

Thanks for the concern Rene but I am actually a USC but have never lived there, it's something I want to do before I get too old!
Yea they are the only company I have seen doing cheap one way fares, like said above all the other one way fares I have seen are ridiculously expensive! I have flown Ryanair before and it didn't bother me, but that was a 2 hour flight not an 11 hour one

A little more info on Norwegian Airlines for anyone that is interested, the bog standard flight from London Gatwick to LA (just to get a idea on prices) is £269 one way, this doesn't include any checked baggage only a 10kg hand baggage, no meals are included and it doesn't allow you to reserve your own seat. For £319 you get a 20kg checked baggage, 10kg hand baggage, meal and you can choose your own seat. Got to be honest if people are only wanting one way £319 is still definately the way to go and it's still probably £200+ cheaper than any other airline.
I even found a one way flight from LA to London for £181.90 for the cheap option and £231.90 for the 2nd option. There are 5 different ticket options to choose from lowfare, lowfare+, flex, premium and premium flex. Their return flights are just the price of 2 one ways.
They are worth checking out I'd say.

I agree. When we came over one-way was as expensive, or more than return. We just bought a return, but didn't.

When we looked returns were indeed cheaper. However we discovered a trick, as I had sufficient airmiles we explored that route. The airmile single quote was half the airmile return quote, however right at the end of the purchase was the option to not use airmiles but pay money. That quoted price was sane and not an inflated single premium. I don't know if I could have got to that point without sufficient airmiles though.
